Alex is going to kill me if he finds out I'm posting this, but when we lived in Woodinville when he was about 3 or 4 we lived in a neighborhood will 9 boys all within a year of each other, and no girls other than Olivia who was an infant (The Crossings off Avondale Road for all you Woodinville people). No fences were allowed in the neighborhood, so all the boys would run around like a pack of wild dogs, Any mud puddle, and they would all be in it! The moms would call as they headed from house to house "No snacks, they just raided the neighbors garage freezer of their Otter Pops!" One afternoon I left Don and Alex home while I picked up a friend with a son Alex's age from the airport. As we turned into my street, here comes the pack of boys, Alex included, all of them bare naked and running from the yard across the street. "What is going on here?" my friend was asking kind of shocked as her son was yelling "Stop car! Stop the Car!" As soon as we pulled into the driveway, much to the horror of my way too uptight friend, he jumped out of the car, stripped down, and joined them! The mom from across the street came out from her yard then. She said the boys were playing in the mud and all came up to the house with their grubby little hands all over the porch door an walls wanting wome watermellon. When she saw all the mud, she pulled out the garden hose and started to spray them all down, but she told her 2 sons to strip down, so all the boys did! We did not bother to stop them, it was a hot summer day and they all spent the rest of it running around naked.

Does he remember ?

East of the Mountains? Pretty much all of summer and into early fall, although up in Okanogan and Omak where RFF and 4312 live fall comes earlier; West of the Mountains it may get hot enough for AC a week or two every summer, if you can't close your blinds before the sun hits the windows. It was over 100 degrees on the wetside five days in a row in... 2009? 2008? and that was *half* the triple digit weather for my whole life. And last summer it only got over 90 once. On the wetside.

East of the Mountains there's places that are true deserts.

HA!!! I wish I didn't hit 100 degrees every summer... But every year that I have lived here, "so 4 years now," my backyard has gotten up to 115... Now keep in mind that I have 0 shade except for the AM hours and at dusk... During the hottest days we will hit 117 no problem, normal days we are sitting at over 95 degrees... I have figured out though, that if I spray the rocks around my back porch, it cools my yard off by about 15 degrees... Kinda like a swamp cooler. My chickens are lucky, they have the only shady spot through the entire day.

that's amazing!! That's the kind of weather we get here, but, the Tricities is where it can get really hot!! thats not far from Bangor right? I was stationed there in the 80s it never got that hot there as far as I can remember?? That's interesting!

Speaking of food grade DE, pick it up at the Grange or some other place. I just saw it at ACE; a 5 ounce container was $10.99!!!!!!!! I don't think I paid much more than that for 50 pounds!

.... and speaking of pregnancy, I think you will soon be required to post baby belly shots as well

Me either, 50# sack food grade DE was $23 at my feed store.

Oh I LOVE hats!
What else can 'set' off an outfit but a hat, and yes the angle is all important, except in the case of my Grunden, which, at an angle looks perfectly idiotic, and worse, it will not shed water as it is designed to do, and I look ridiculous in it, and the bib fisherman's pants that go with it.
But they do the job!!

hmm so I take it no one here watches "what not to wear" !!! I take it most people that frequent Walmart don't either!!! LOL

I have watched What Not To Wear, but I can't afford new clothes until we get the lawyers paid off, and it's not as much fun.

It's not the hat. It's the angle. I have gotten compliments on Mr. H's bucket hat he got for hiking because I wear it at a rakish angle. My sister is a milliner. it's my duty to encourage the wearing of hats. I have a wardrobe of them.

I would just like to hit the "like" button on the above post. Rakish is a good word.

to be honest I HATE Walmart!! I have always said, the day WILL come when my economic state will improve and I will never darken their doors again!!!!

I never have.
I also have a dust bath (in a home depot tub $8 each) in every coop with half a bag of sand, 2 feed scoops of DE, and 1/2 can of poultry dust, mixed up for the birds to dust themselves, and inside, so they stay dry.
Clean poops or shavings out every few days with a cat pan spoon, toss poops in a 5 gallon bucket.

My concern is that we're not supposed to breathe DE anyway (although how can you not when it's being tossed into the coop?!), Permethrin is a category B for pregnancy. I'll prob have to have DH do the applications.

When cleaning your coop, put on a dust mask.
Cheap packs any any hardware store.
I just breath slightly or hold my breath to collect eggs.
It is dry, powdered poop you should not be breathing...you can get a parasitic infection in your lungs from that.
Wear a mask.

yea and the problem too is we are on the west coast not the east coast and they have their own fashion trends, there are some classic looks tho, but, I have been trying to find pointy toe pumps for over a year now and they "aren't in style"!! so it doesn't do me any good to watch when you can't get the clothes for your body type!!
