Are they large?? If so yes most likely they are bumble's. Bumble bees are also very good and while they do pollinate they aren't able to do as good due to thier size. And while they do produce honey it is a very small amount. A hive of bumble's will only be about 100 or so bees where honey's will be 40,000 - 60,000 or even more.

They may be honey bees then - we also get a much larger yellow and black fuzzy bee in lesser numbers, I usually see them at the lavender. I got stung by a big bumble bee once and it HURT!

It was in the house on the stair rail and I put my hand on it. It got me right between 2 fingers. In my experience,it hurt worse than a honeybee sting, but it just be where it got me.

CL- I talked to a lady I know the other day that was looking for several breeds of chickens that I think you have and it sounds like she was interested in talking to you. I know she wanted Dark Cornish, Buckeyes and maybe Javas. She wanted your phone # so if you want her to have your # I'll pass it on to her. If you prefer to have hers I have it. Thanks!

Yes but IF a Drone mates with the queen then he dies

and if a drone doesn't mate then at the end of the season he is kicked out of the hive to be homeless and die when the weather turns bad. What a life.

Well, maybe if he worked a little harder, he'd be allowed to stay!

Ok, I will admit to being one of those people.

I did that once because of how I had the latches on my doors. I had the swingy part on the door and the little sticky out part on the side. The door shut hard and the hinged part swung around and latched and I couldn't open it. Nobady was home and I didn't have my cel phone on me. I basically had to kick the door a few time really hard to bust it open, but it scared me and I switched the latches around post haste! Lesson learned. Never Again!

The day my daughter returned home from college she was quite excited because she hadn't met the chickens yet so she went to visit them before I ahd gotten home from work. I forgot to tell her the latch was on the outside though and she closed the door tight behind her. She soon realized she was stuck in the coop without a cell phone and it would be at least 3 hours before anyone would be home. She finally figured out to unweave a small section beside the latch so she could wrangle her fingers through and open the door. She told me she was afraid she would just fall unconscious onto the dirt in the coop and I'd find her there. I told her it was good she didn't because the chickens would have eaten her.

Poor girl... but that is funny!!

I have a cinderblock wall like that too, and I am planting it full of mint plants because I heard rats don't like mint.

Flys don't like mint either I have a pot at my front and back doors. It does help, but be carefull mint like to really grow like crazy and becomes a pest it self.

I keep all mine it pots and in cinder block wells. It's chocolate mint and smells really yummy. I need to find Corsican mint again. I had it growing between my paver stones, it smelled so good as you'd walk across it and it would keep the mosquitos away, but it all died off and the area has now been taken over by thyme which is pretty now that it is bloom, but it forms thick mats that trip people.

You have to REALLY ANNOY most bumble-bees to get them to sting (sit on them, f'rinstance, although I really can't recommend that experience), and yeah, they hurt: not as bad as a black hornet/bald-faced hornet, which feels like getting kicked by a horse with very sharp hoes, but worse than a yellowjacket or honeybee.

Netti Pot. - I can only get myself to use it when I get real bad like that, and then I start gagging, but sometimes manage to remove a huge mucus plug that I can feel slipping from my ear canals and other sinus cavities as it is coming out. If you can get past the gag and grossness factor, your head will immediately feel much better for a couple of days. Sometimes it takes quite a few tries to loosen all that nastiness. I was shocked at how much my hearing improved!

I sure hope they still make it. That is so sad.

Me too! RR's story is encouraging though - so I hope those eggs are back in the incubator now!
