Two pages back (645)?

I would be asleep but my bedtime story was interrupted by the same person whose been blowing my sleep to bits for twenty three years, one month, and 27 days. At least all she does now is talk; back then there was the trying to get outside in the middle of the night stuff that was worse than the loud fussiness of the first three months.

My daughter, agent of insomnia.

hey--lemme know how that works.. because of my cats and especially Farm Cat who is a Great Huntress, I DO NOT want to put out bait anywhere, not even in the shop which is completely closed off to the cats. There was a rat last summer in my garden that had been poisoned by one of the neighbors. I totally could pick it up it was so dazed. If Liger had found that, she would have chomped it right down and been a very sick cat.

If you place the glue traps on ledges, and in small playces where the cats/pets cannot go, you will find that is where the rats are runnin. Good luck!

I like my rat zapper. It's pricey but the batteries will last 2 years or 40 rats. No poison, no half-dead rats running off with a spring trap, and no dealing with a like rat stuck to the gluey thing. Quick, easy, clean, non-toxic, and hopefully humane.

So, how many rats have ya caught so far?

Only the three - two biggies 2 nights in a row and then a small one a couple nights ago. I find that if it's raining cats and dogs, the rats stay away. I only catch them on clear nights. But still even on clear nights I have been leaving the feeders in the runs and have not seen any more rat tirds.

The instructions say that rats are smart and many times will need to see something new in their environment for 2 weeks before they check it out. I trapped one the first night I put it out! I have them set up outside the runs, but against them. I take them in during the day time because one of my dogs chews on the thing. The dog slobber happened after the first rat was caught, but after I had already flung the roat over then fence into the woods.

New Guy!
Sorry I can't help you with your question. I don't show. Do you have a photo of your porcelain D'Uccles? That is one on my one day want to get birds, but I have to wait. I have too many chickens at the moment.

I just got done making sixteen 12 oz jars of strawberry jam from the "day old" berries i got at the farmers market this afternoon. That should last my son about 2 weeks.

These strawberries are very dark, so is the jam. Looks more like raspberry jam. I made them woth 50% less sugar and added the juice of 1 lemon to 20 cups of sliced up berries and 2 packages of pectin. It smells so good in here! (I once made my own pectin from apples. Boy was that a pain in the A**, but it was the tastiest pepper jelly I have ever had.

I was pretty impressed with these "old" berries. Ony one from each flat had just the tinies fuzzy spot, so I tossed those berries. Less than a dozen had any bruising at all, and my hens will have to fight over those in the morning. She said her better jam variety is ripening in 2 weeks.

If Eagle ever shows up here again, I owe him some jam still from when he went to the fair grounds to ask about my camera when I had lost it at the Monroe chicken show. (It fell into one of the boxes I was transporting chicks in and was burried under the shavings.)

Ogress...I'm in North Bend, too! I'm up in Wilderness Rim, where we're not *supposed* to have chickens, according to the covenants. A few of us have them anyway. Nice to see someone else from our awesome little spot in the PNW!

I'm sorry I was late reporting for the night shift. My kiddo at work decided she wanted to watch Chip N Dale rescue rangers. We watched that till about 3 am before she decided to go to sleep. So now I'm reporting for duty.
