Luckily he has taken himself out of the picture at this point, and my son doesn't want to have anything to do with him. My son is in counseling to try to understand or cope I guess. But I have to admit that I am relieved that DS is with us full time. It is so much easier to raise him in a stable environment and not feel like I am doing damage control all of the time. But yes, he treated me the same way, if it wasn't something he agreed with and you did it anyway he made life miserable, but he would go do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. It was his way or the highway. I chose the highway, but the highway was forced on my DS. Life throws so many things at you, and hopefully we are all up to the challenge.

Fortunately your son has you to fall back on.

Thank you. And he has said he likes being with us full time too. So that feels good to hear.

Which ones do you have? I looked into that last winter and got overwhelmed trying to pick the right ones.

GE makes a bulb that is single packaged in the 100 watt box. It is a compact fluorescent. It has a 6500K Temp rating. Any of those bulbs that have a 6500 or higher Kelvin Temperature rating produce more light in the daylight range. That dull yellow strobing light will take its toll.​

CR, I know what you meant by it. No worries. Thanks! It took me almost 11 years to take said highway. Not an easy decision no matter what.

OK, I'm posting in response to cheryl asking what everyone is doing today. I so respect her for finding a safe place to take her horses. And it is a day for celebration but I have to say, as a kid growing up in Cali I loved the fourth. fireworks are illegal in Cali so there were lots of organized displays we could attend and they were awesome! Huge, colorful, celebratory displays. But upon moving to Wa state I have grown a huge distaste for the fourth. There are too many psycho pyro maniacs out there. The fireworks purchased at the stands pale in comparison to what I watched as a kid. All it is is an excuse for psychos to make sparkler bombs etc and none of it does a thing for me. They burn themselves, blow themselves up, start multiple fires. It's pretty lame. DH lit off some on our property last night (much to my protest) and in the absense of a calm patriarch like I had last year my young horses went into a panic. Our young Corgi who also went into a panic was in shivering convulsions the whole time. I have contacted our horse vet who helps with the dogs on occasion and will be giving her tranquilizers tonight. I, unfortunately do not have an alternative place to take the horses but DH on the other hand has several choices of place to light off explosives but chooses our place because "it's his property too and he can do what he wants". In the whole 5 acres he chooses to light them right in their faces. He is now over visiting our friends on the water who have a perfect place for explosives so I told him to stay over there and not come home. I will stay here and be St Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Animals and the Environment. Ai yi yi, what a bunch of freaks! So hopefully, I will spend the fourth alone, calming animals and reminicing my childhood.

Ari, summer just got here. It won't always be 70. We do have summer, just a little shorter sometimes.

Holidays are difficult for me, so I chose to ignore most of them. Today is just a day off work. I got my weekend honey-do's done early on Sunday, so today I got to do what I want to do. That's our trade off. I keep up on the honey-do's on her piece of property, and I get to do what I darn well please on mine. She's got 2 acres and the house/lawn/pool ... and I have 2 acres and the tractor/coops/shop. Seems like a fair trade to me.

So - today I chose to spend it working on one of the cotton woods along the creek. They are all so old that most any wind causes damage. The canopy over the creek is such that the smaller trees don't get any light. I want to make sure that there are always trees on the property, so today I made sure that part of what I removed opened up light to a stand of saplings. I'm trying to work on one tree a year (there must be 10 or 12) - I'm behind. I was able to burn all the small stuff, larger branches were cut to size for the shop's blaze king. Now, it is time for a few beers, some grilled salmon and a soak in the hot-tub.
