I can handle them in small doses.. heh.

My real beef is with parents not kids. Seems like more and more parents have forgotten the lessons THEIR parents taught (or maybe they never learned them?). I think bratty kids are a result of the way they are being raised. It also never seems to fail that if there is a kid who's going to be outta line, it will be out of line with me - and with no parent around to make a correction - and that drives me fudge-nuts.

DH and I ate lunch at Jay Berry's in town yesterday. The wiat staff there all wear t-shirts with sayings on the back, all pertaining to unsupervised kids (similar signs hang on the walls).

"Unsupervised children will be given espresso and a free puppy"

or

"Children left running will be towed away at the owners expense"

That's probably my favorite quote, I laugh every time I see it!!!! The first time I saw it was at a local coffee shop, very cool.

Every kid that shws up on my property is given the rules, and I tell them to the parents as well. I do nt deal with bratty, snotty kids or teenagers for that matter. Every kid that comes around here, wether they are on my property or my Mothers, they all know me as the enforcer. lol They arent afraid of me, but fr the most part they respect me and other elders when around me. Follow the rules and yuo'll be OK, dont, and you'll have to deal with me. I will skold someone elses child, but if it comes down to them needing a harsher reprimand, I haul them off to their parents and make sure something is done about it.

Sounds quite harsh, but Ive gotta protect my critters and family, and in the same time, I have to prtect thse kids as well. Wether I personally like them or not.

I grew up in a very large family, and had some awsome vallues instilled from that raising. And I would be more than happy to spread those vallues to the kids that come around.

Cause Im just a big meany!

Sounds to me as if I'd like your kid

Hey !

I know nothing about feeding fruit to pullets other than they like to eat it so I give it to them

My advice on getting a pullet. -- Find one from someone on this thread. All of us are chicken lovers, and our birds reflect that. I can almost guarantee you'd get a great bird. If you go to a larger producer, I think you increase the risk of getting something 'icky'. It happened to me and it will take me a year to recover from it.

I think your black pullet is a BO.

VF...
My ladies love fruit, too!

I'm sure you're right about getting a bird from this group and that's one reason I asked the question here, it's a great group. I don't post often, but I read as many posts as I can find time for. My husband knows what I'm doing when I'm in front of the computer! ~ ~ Chickens ~ ~ I'll never be a breeder so culls work for me, but healthy is important. Obviously I didn't know what I was doing when I bought my first two, I was way too anxious to get started. Living and learning!

BO was my first guess for Pearl, too. But a couple people, far more knowledgeable than I, suggested Sumatra or Sumatra mix. Even Jersey Giant was mentioned. So I'm just waiting until she lays and finishes maturing. It keeps my interest piqued.

I havnt met anyone who didn't like Chloe, at least not yet. lol I deffinately lucked out with her, as she is not the typical 2 year old.

OK gotcha, that's actually helpful. If it does not come outta the ground easily then I can mulch it.

It's growing in my raised bed with the blueberries, and they are far more sensitive to root disturbance.
