Mine collapsed in December, DH and I managed to unmangle the thing and then hired someone to build a roof. It has a wood frame drilled through the metal of the kennel and clear corrugated panels. I have a photo taken shortly after it was completed. If you'd like better photos, I can go out and take more. It is the structure in the L side of the photo.

I read elsewhere on BYC that drinking ice water will cool them down faster than giving them cold things to sit on because their feathers are such good insulators. Also said it will keep them from drinking TOO much water which is harmful. It could be worth a try.

Wow...thanks for all the replies!!

I am having DH read them, and tell me what he thinks since he is in charge of building and repairs

So far tho...it looks like he is leaning towards replacing the kennel with a wooden structure and doing the peaked roof with clear corrugated Sun Tuff panels. Then using the dog kennel as an extension to the wooden run, but uncovered and with deer netting <set up to be removable in snow weather> over the top. I think he is planning to put a wind break between the two sections like we have on the chicken door...cut plastic hanging down....but I don't know if its a feasible option or not. He has so many ideas lol

This way, he says they have a covered area free of snow and rain, but if the ladies REALLY want to be in the rain/snow that badly they can still go out in it.

At least that is what it sounds like atm. He will be reading all the replies and resources you have linked so far, and asked me to extend his thanks for the assistance.

Thanks!
Yeah ... It's going to be a few years before we can take a vacation that does not involve sleeping on friends couches, on the other hand, we were able to keep a very good friend employed for a few months when he lost his job (he also built a deck and a large dog run for us). He and his wife have done a lot of volunteer work with my son and a lot of other kids at the elementary school unicycle team, so helping them out is much more rewarding that a vacation, and now we have a high quality, beautiful coop and deck. There are more photos of it on my BYC page.

We had a great time with Pettec63, what a great person she is!!!!!!
I love her sense of humor & dedicated spirit!!
Hope she makes it home Ok, I think we took up alot of her time before she got to Zgoatlady's..
And the garden is producing so much it is now taking half a day to harvest & process/freeze the food....
Hope you all are doing well, and I will get back on in the morning, maybe.
Tomorrow the floor lumber delivery shows up, and after that you know what breaks loose

Well we finally made it home. I was saved in the last couple hours and our weekend actually turned out pretty good. I find it amazing that I only sold a couple little things to festival goers. The rest was all bought by people associated with the farm. Kind of like at Stevenson. It was you people my BYC buddies who made it work for me there.
