MY little RIR has been broody for TWO weeks now. I was going to try and break her from it.But changed my mind and have decided to let her try and hatch and raise some chicks

This will be a new experince for me so I will have several questions for you Pro's

I have only two questions right now.

(1) does anybody have any fertile eggs they would sell me ????

( 2) how many eggs should I put under her

The work continues on the coop, ever-so slowly. Being my carpenter friends work full time jobs too

They are not wanting to drink anything. They are perking up a little. Just hope there is no brain damage.

Meons are great for when the birds dont want to drink. My birds will eat a the mellon down to the rind. Keeps them cool and provides fluids, plus it gives them something to do.

Hope you were abe to pul them through, and you dont lose anymore!

Room for the swarm and room to grow but not to much space. So I would make the hive 1 level with frames in about 5 spaces and empty in 5 spaces.
Once they move in you can add the other levels again.

2) They are attracted to Lemongrass scent.

The suggestions I've read are to take a q-tip and dip the ends in lemon grass oil. place in back floor of hive. Apparently the lemongrass scent is simular to queen bee scent.

3) reduce entry door

They want to build a new hive not have to defend a football field sized door. so block/reduce the door/entry to just a small gap. This allows them to work on building rather then defending the new hive.

I'm hoping to take a single box with frames and hide it in the blackberry field at the local campus here. I'm hoping I can entice a swarm to move in and then I can take em home.

From al the reading I have done on Iceandics, they have proven to be quite the hardy little birds! Chickielady! Let me now if you get any crests! Sometimes they dont "pop" up until they are a couple weeks old!
