Thanks cheryl

They are not wanting to drink anything. They are perking up a little. Just hope there is no brain damage.

Meons are great for when the birds dont want to drink. My birds will eat a the mellon down to the rind. Keeps them cool and provides fluids, plus it gives them something to do.

Hope you were abe to pul them through, and you dont lose anymore!

I took one back the the coop last night, he complained but was doing great this am. The other spent the night in the house, she was eating and drinking this am. DW says the hen is still doing fine but is making the kitchen stink so it needs to get out

. Thanks for all the great information, I do believe they will make it. Today is another scorcher. Around noon the kids put 4 2liter bottles of frozen water in their pen.

Part Maine Coon, part Agricultural Shorthair- the last of the old barncat colony dating back to when I was in high school, hunted out by a coyote that denned up under the barn when my sister and brother-in-law caught the brunt of elder care for our aunt and his mother and were not anywhere on the farm for long enough to dissuade predators.

My sister has cats now that throw vaguely Himalayan-like kittens occassionally. I don't know what the current bunch is like, but I bet my DILtobe might.

I've got to finally go shopping, explitive deleted. If I'd known today was going to be such a slog, I could have had a very welcome visit from hallerlake, but: slog, slog, frustration and slog and now I need to go hit six major shopping places before I can come back and move the chicken tractor, the sheep tractor, and four sprinklers.

Monday is Monday.

That's a miraculous hatch!

From al the reading I have done on Iceandics, they have proven to be quite the hardy little birds! Chickielady! Let me now if you get any crests! Sometimes they dont "pop" up until they are a couple weeks old!

Crests?

It looks like I'm going to hook up with WA4-poultrymom tomorrow to get some eggs

Chickielady
My RIR is a LF. I would like to put 6 to 8 eggs under her.

Ok here is my next questions

Can I leave her where she is now, in the same coop with the other eight girls
idunno.gif
. She is number 2 on the pecking order. #1 is her good friend my Cal. white. so she shouldn't get picked on. I have FIVE nest box's all in a row. The girls mainly use # 3 thru 5. can I put my RIR with her eggs in #1 box??? Good idea or bad idea ? I could move two pullets and give her her own 5x5 coop if I have too

. Any thoughts on this ??????

Thanks

YES!!! Some Icelandics DO indeed have crests! And oh they are SO STINKING CUTE!!!

I really do love the breed, but have been putting off getting any eggs, until I have the Ameraucanas sorted and settled. The Icelandics are next on my ist of must have!

They come in every color, some w/crests, others without, some even have feather shanks. There has even been some feathering out frizzled, but I'm not 100% sure its not the frayed gene.

But yeah, the veriety is what snagged my attention. They seem to be more happy when able to free range, they fy, are escape artists, and have just a huge drive to survive! Very predator savy as well, especialy airial predators.

Perfect example of Icelandics with crests. Scrol down the page, theres a few pics of crested Icelandics!

Absolutely!

I like the crests, but what I really like is the last hen, which has the tan coloring & two-color partridge like spangles down her breast.
Some have partridge "lacing" as well.
They can be all different.
This aspect of the breed can make it extremely difficult to choose the cockerals to save, and which have to go bye bye..cuz each is diferent, and all are gorgeous.
It is alot like a nice big box of chocolates, or a container of different beads....each with 'something' that stands out.

My lumber is here!
Concrete & simpsom ties, joist hangers & treated bottom sill lumber and rolls of foam foundation sealer

It is all very wonderful but sure do not get much for the $912.53.
But, at least I will have no mortgage.
The bad part is it is going to take a long long time...
