Love parsnips!!! Leave them in the ground until we get a couple good frosts. It helps sweeten them. We like them roasted in the oven with carrots/potatoes, mashed, in soups and stews. They kind of have a sweet earthy flavor. Hard to describe.

And don't let them go to seed! I had a huge bed two years ago of root crops. Parsnips, carrots, turnips, beets, and let it go to seed. Last year it reseeded itself and was ok. This year, I had monster root vegetables in there this spring, and I wasn't sure what was 1 yr old or 2 yr's old. Some of my parsnips were 10" across at the top! HUGE! And very deep rooted and almost impossible to turn over the dirt. So cut them back or pull them out when they start going to seed. My advice anyway.

Loved meeting Ron today and all his chickees!!! We couldn't believe how WHITE some of his birds were! I think he gave them baths and took them to a spa or something before we showed up! We were very impressed and we don't have any white birds anymore because they always looked so muddy/dirty in this climate. And he showed us a triple-yoker white egg! Well, I'm guessing that it might have 3 yolks anyway. It was the biggest egg I ever did see!!!

Good luck with your hatch and keep me posted!!!!

I think he has a wading pool in his yard filled with oxy-clean.

kind of like weak carrots - they must grow well here as I often find them in my Full Circle box. I don't care for them, but my kids like them. My kids insisted we grow a rainbow assortment of carrots. It will be the oddly colored ones that are eaten first.

Oh that is funny!!!
I have a SQ pair of white Plymouth Rocks, and they are so super white they almost glow...never a speck of dirt on them.

My """friend""" just dropped off a large deposit to my Bachelor Pad.
He was unable to snuff any of them..so I said OK..
Anyway now I have :

SQ Blue Ameracauna
" Wheaten Ameracauna
" 2 black Ameracaunas
2 very nice Cuckoo Marans
and a Black Copper Marans (Zgoatlady from Illia stock, I believe) this BCM is awesome...I wanna keep him, but....

All these are cockerals (under 1 year old)
All are NICE boys.
Most are not quite crowing yet.
Some are.
Most all are free to good homes.

Also do not forget the free BMF cockeral (Mille Fluer) my freind down the street has...FREE.

10 INCHES??!!! WOW!
My raised bed is only 12 inches deep and the variety I bought says it grows to 7 inches.
Should be fun to try they for the first time. Thanks for the info!

We grew some purple carrots one year. They were from Thompson and Morgan. Those were a fav! But cooked they were just orange.

I only ever found one brand I liked that did not dry and damage my hair, and it was $24, though I paid a lot less. I had a friend pick it up wholesale. Unfortunatley the friend moved to another country and they stopped making the stuff, so someone told me of another brand. It is $18 per can and I don't like it. Too stiff. I rarely ever use hairspray, so a can usually lasts me 2 or 3 years.

I like Dove, personally. I don't use it much--since my hair is always in a ponytail anyway--I just use it on the sides where I get little fly-aways....

OK you can keep yer white eggs and I will (try to) not tell. Unless of course Kim makes a good offer!!!!!

Those Lav Orps and Blue/Black Orps sound great!

But did you notice that his total came out to 11? Not 12? Hmmmm....Ron needs some lessons in addition(we will leave out the subtraction, just in case

)! I think he may actually be better at chicken math since his chickens keep multiplying exponentially!
