I think a lot of us felt that way the first time! At least I did with my incubator. Wonder if I would have felt less stressed with a broody? It probably would have drove me nuts to not be able to press my face up against the glass and watch the eggs hatch!

Either way, once the chicks start hatching it makes it all worth the worry! Have fun with yours!

I got to "talk chicken" with Wil Wheaton on Monday at the Portland airport while I waited for my flight back to Spokane. It was awesome, he was awesome! Of course, I'm sure he's used to complete strangers introducing themselves to him...me on the other hand, not so much! But he was nice enough to let me interrupt his beer drinking in peace, lol. Chickens came up in the course of the conversation and he told me a relative of his has chickens as well and that he would love to have them but can't because of his other animals.

And for anyone going "who the heck is that?"...he was in Stand by Me and Star Trek: Next Generation (he played Wesley Crusher) as a kid, and more recently has been on The Big Bang Theory, Eureka, and The Guild (a webisode series all about gamers...). I'm a fan, my SO is an even bigger fan!

ETA BTW I have met all (I think) of Broody's brood and they are very well mannered little people. In fact we rode to the show in Monroe with them. One of thier DD and 2 friends were in the back seat and we hardly heard a peep out of them the entire way. So don't let broody scare ya with threats of bringing her little people !!!!! Now the cat that is a whole different story.

My ice cream does taste a bit like lotion if you eat it by itself, but if you put just a little in the same bowl as a deep chocolate, it is very good. Unfortunately, I had eaten the chocolate already, so I was not as thrilled with the ice-cream as usual. It really tasted like the aroma of my plants. My first memory of lavender is in some yummy almond nougat that some Italian people used to give me as a child every time my mom went to them to buy cheese, so I think of it more as food than I do body products, but I have been using lavender mint tea tree shampoo for a year now because I love the way it smells.

I posted a question once on Old Fashioned Broody back when I was trying to hatch eggs. I never got a reply, so I gave up on that thread. I have no clue what I'm doing, but thankfully my hen does! All the fertile eggs I put under her hatched and the chicks are about 5 weeks old now. She is pretty good at following me around and squaking until I get her what she wants. Last night she tried to get all her chicks to join her on a high roosting bar, only 1 chick, the web-footed one, made it! She hopped down for a while and gathered her chicks under a step stool for the night. No interest anymore in the low nest box I provided. She wants to take her chicks into the yard to free range, but we have too many arial preadators for me to let them out until they are full size, so she will need to make do with the coop and run, their half is over 200 SF. I could not separate the toes not the chick as they were grown into each other, but it has not hampered the chick at all. He/she?? is the most agile! I'll have to check out the Stink Eye thread.

I love the linoleum flooring, but don't buy linoleum tile as they will peel up. Lowes is a great place to look for large scraps. I think it could be used in a brooder if you pt a decent amount of shavings on it.

Any intrest in meeting at the North Bend Farmer's market this Thursday? The band is Bottle Rockit. They play from 6-8. Market starts at 3:30. I usually get there at 5. The market is at Si View Park, it is a beautiful setting, good food, and I am now listening to a sample from the band, and it sounds good.

North bend is a long way to come back in the evening. What about some place more central like Bellevue?

I could go somewhere else tonight or Friday. I will be in CA the next week. I'm dreading that drive.
