Wanted to share something with the Washingtonians out there. I know you do not have one of these. OK, maybe you have a shed of junk and a hutch full of guineas(of many colors), but not too many of you have a hundred plus year old live oak(husband says it is 300 years old but not sure about that--plantation dated back before the civil war), planted during the civil war period. We live on a section of an old plantation called the church lot. The actual house site that was on this property is not far away from us but the house was burnt during Shermans crossing from Savannah. Oh yah, we live outside of Savannah, GA.

Nah, but I've got two groves plus some big single trees of Quercus garryana, Oregon White Oak, which are at best estimate 300-500 years old, so I'm content.

(I did have a shed like yours, built to contain my father's and uncle's pre WW2 Harley Davidsons, but the squirrels took to dropping down ten feet onto one corner, and eventually the whole thing fell down).

SC & NC is alot like WA & OR in it's climate and foliage.
I have spent time in NC & loved it, so much like WA..down to the trees, rhodies, and wildflowers.
I do believe it is a bit cooler here, though.

Wanted to list another fantastic place to score canning jars:
The recycle boxes placed out by the Lions Club, (etc) where people can drive up & drop off glass of various colors.
Several times I have scored cases, still in the box, used, clean & upside down by a good canner.
The second hand stores are good too, and recycle centers for metal sometimes take glass.
Several times people have dropped off Granny's entire cache of jars.
I have scored several cases of antique canning jars, like 'Atlas Strong Shoulders" and "Presto' jars.
Some I keep out with candy in them, some had authentic tin screw on lids with early plastic moulded inside.
Have also gotten alot of 1/2 pints this way..great for canning fish or meats.
That needs to be done in a pressure cooker.

Our raspberries have finally picked up! I very much need to go pick again today. I missed the last two days and I find the more you pick, the more come in.

We wash them, then dry them, then place them in a single layer on a cookie sheet for freezing. Then spatula them off into a gallon size ziplock. That way they are loose and you can just grab a handful to add to your cereal or smoothie. We have one almost full ziplock from our first picking earlier this week. We've been eating the strawberries faster than we can get them in the freezer. I'm anxious for the sun to come back and ripen my blueberries. I have 18 overloaded bushes and planted 8 more early this spring.

I have 16 overloaded blueberries....all waiting on the sun!
If the time is right, DH can bring back peaches & apricots from CA..the apricots are later this year I hear, usually ripe in May..

Definitely cooler in the summer, but about the same in winter; I've got a dear good friend who lives in Western NC and our winter weather is really similar.

I'm almost dressed for the day, although my lack of commitment is apparent by the flapping of my boot-laces. I'd be happier if I could crawl back to bed: my cold is in full bloom, and I feel as if I've been hit my a triple-trailer semi and hit by every wheel.

Dang my roosters are all noisy today! They need to SHUT UP!!!!

PSE crews are digging in a new utility box and stringing in cable on the road just above the coops. Now the birds are free-ranging, so you'd think they'd be smart and head away from all the commotion, but NO! There are 6 roosters by the fence all calling their dang heads off!

Hubbs???No I can't recall but I have forgotten alot from back then....How about Bleakley for you? We lived on Getchell Hill rd. on the Hwy 92 side, by Junction Center and Horse Country.

How funny, I have not thought about those places in a long time. The only person I remember from that area was a Fricke. She lived across the road from Horse Country. What class were you in? I was in 77. Boy, that dates me!

I was class of 84.Then maybe you remember The Albins? I was in the same class as a Shirley Frinke.I thought she lived closer to the crooked mile.
