[Chicken Rustler]

Thanks to Broodytoad we now have our RIR B cockerel. He seems to be fitting in well. First night he slept in one of the 4 nest boxesthen last night right at dark I went out and put him on the roost with the others. Tonight I went out and he has the idea he was roosting with the rest of his flock. So hopefully we will have hatchin eggs soon.

Hmmmm.... was just outside and heard the little Maran trill/chirping. It's really dark out there! Isn't she supposed to be asleep???? She was laying down in the bucket/nest. I don't know about their sleeping habits, but I really thought they were supposed to be asleep when it's dark. Is this normal?

He along with the other B RIR Roos and pullets would all smush into a nest box at night. It was so funny to see them all squished in there ! And they had 2 long roosts. Go figure.
Has he crowed for ya yet? I never did hear him crow here but some roos are just less vocal from what I hear.
My Cuckoo Marans roo only sounds off in the a.m. but the BW Marans crows at all times.

It must be a summer thing. This thread has slowed way down. I don't mind though.

It's 8 am and 80*. The temp highs have been 100*+ since Friday and will be that way for the next 6 days. That will make 8 days straight with temps at or above 100*.

Our Heat index will be 110*+.

Do Washingtonians deal with Heat Indexes?

We stay pretty much inside. I can't get the birds to lay next to the frozen 2 liter bottles so I have been putting a frozen 2 liter bottle in their waterier. I use a 5 gallon bucket with nipples on the bottom.
