Still waiting to know what the little secret is ??? Well maybe all will go well today and it can be revealed.

hey CR, would you be interested in an old air compressor with a big round green tank that looks almost like a propane bottle?

last I knew, the motor would not run ... I will check with DH and DS but I think they have it in the junk pile

Welcome back. Too bad you are not closer. I have room and they could sing all they want. Nobody would even notice them among the 4 local roosters and many in the distance.

Well, you are not THAT far away

Which reminds me.....my Brabanter pullet with the best crest and spangling, lacks a beard. Can her offspring have beard, or will they be beardless, too? I don't know much about chicken genetics.

They can have beards. The beard vs no beard gene seems to run in my Creves, too. My rooster could certainly use a fuller, thicker beard but seems to be producing much nicer beards than he, himself has. All but one of my hens have great beards, though.

I have a neighbor friend/client (groom her dogs every 2wks), she in april ordered her chicks half grown. They are Red Stars. Looks alot like those red ones. The dark chickens are interesting looking, wonder what breed or mix those are.

Shannon

My guess would be black sexlink but I am far from a chicken expert. Actually far from an expert at anything for that matter!

Yeah, that looks like Michael's POL pullets, who are Red Stars and BSLs. He started out with a dozen of each, but they were just added to the flock when the coyote started raiding, and he's down to... ten altogether? I think? There's one couple who are inseparable:

Yes I agree with C.R. those black ones look just like my Black sexlink. she is a great layer. when she started laying, she laid 46 eggs in 48 days!!!!!!

. I lost count after that because she started laying in the other coop with the big girls.

I think my RIR is DONE sitting on the nest . she hatched 7 chicks on Tues. one on Wed. that left 4 eggs that didn't hatch

I'm not sure if the last one to hatch is going to make it. It seems alert but it fall over easy

I don't see anything wrong with its feet or legs

Mommy came out of the nest box to greet me this morning. she doesn't seem to mind at all that I pick up her chicks
