Yeah, you are right and I know this. I usually stay outside most of the time.
And I figured out why I more of a problem this year than ever before.
The people who used to live behind us moved. They had dogs and so not many predators came through there.
Now I am pretty sure that both times the Bobcat came through, it was through their yard and into our yard.
It was a truly beautiful animal, and I wouldn't want to shoot it.
But I would want to be able to scare it away at the very least.
It was interesting though, when I scared it enough to drop the chicken, he/she went into the pasture and sat there watching me watching it.
It layed down in the grass and it was hard to see if you didn't know where it was.
I know it was waiting for us to go away so it could come back and get another opportunity for dinner.
My DH went in and got his pistol and shot at it, to scare it totally of for the time being.
I am going to put TP out in my shed so I can just pee outside.
Our yard is private and I don't have an issue with using the outdoors.
it's just hard because I have never had a problem before this year.
It just makes me sad.

I wonder, if you borrowed a dog who was good at "marking" territory -- or likewise an unaltered male cat ...

I had a half-bobcat for awhile --- even though he was neutered, he was very good at marking and spraying

kept all other cats away

bobcat may not infringe on territory marked by someone else --- but not sure human marking would dissuade ...

I think that is why the cat has come around. The people behind us had a boy dog that would pee on everything.
At least it was a deterrant.
I know they saw signs of predators passing through, but they usually just kept on going.
So I never saw them.
There is a slightly wooded area between our houses so I am pretty sure animals take that route and when they spot or hear the chickens they come through our yard now.
No pressing reason like dogs, for the to keep on passing through.

Awesome horse, beautiful head!!
I need to paint him.

Kaneke::: A half Bob Cat ?
You referring to a Manx housecat ?

Kim::::: It does help to gather dog POOP up in a 5-gal bucket, and "sprinkle" it ALL around your proprty lines.
The Bob will not know the difference but not like the dog doo....
They are very territorial..and they will POOP right in the middle of trails & driveways/roads to let everyone know.
Their scat is very dry-looking & segmented...and bigger than house cat doo doo.

They will get more and more brazen and come closer & closer until they will even spray on your front door.
DH's boots left on our "porch" last year got sprayed...the Bob Cat here even sprayed the dog house while Jack slept inside, and all the clothes on the clothesline

This in broad day light while we made a quick trip into town.
he did NOT get into my pens, though, and no birds are allowed out unless we are there with them...
I am so sorry Kim!!!!!!!!!!!

I will get you a new girl.........................hopefully soon.

Alight...I need some smaller insulated coops for the expansion happening in my yard. I need ideas. Velvet Fog...I may need to talk to you...but I am unsure I can afford to pay someone to do it for me. Maybe you could sell me a design idea. I either need a few small coops for bantam family groups or one long one that would be divided for different families inside. I am thinking with 1 coop may allow for body heat to help. There would be bantam cochins (won't need the light bulb to keep warm as bad) and I would be having the seramas ( I need to keep them warm). VF it maybe I buy 1 at a time from you as I can afford it. I have winters like you so you would understand. I will go take a photo of the "planned" "okayed" expansion and post them.

I am going to the Fair Grounds to collect up all my entries....and then work on the house some more.
I will try to get pics of the house to you today, oh yeah, and the Pumpkin I forgot to post the pics of them all....one at the fair and 4 or 5 more here.

Canned 8 quarts of stewed tomatoes yesterday.
pressure canner is busted (says Mom) so I blached & froze the green beans.
DH weighed the 2 bags of beans we picked and reported it to be 13 pounds.
Felt like 30 pounds to me.
I snipped stems & snapped long beans in sections for over 3 hrs!!
Fingers are now stained brown from beans & near bloody.
Now it is time to go get a new bigger freezer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Waiting on the new hog to be butchered & get unseasoned sausage from Stumpfarmer's sister...September?
And the 1/4 beef....
That and planted more winter vegies yesterday, Broccoli.
Brussels Sprouts are about 8-10" high now

Ha ha! Yes, he is gorgeous! Wish I could keep them all but Jean is a great Mom. My weakness is eye candy. Just can't have a plain brown horse or a plain brown chicken! If you paint him I want a copy!
