I'll email my 4Hers and see if anyone is interested. Most of them will be at Stevenson.

The egg shells are hard, but my SLW stands straight up like a penguin when she drops her egg, and it does fall! She looks funny when she does it, but is in and out of the nesting box quicker than any of the other hens by far. Pretty much hops up to the highest nest box, stands like a penguin then starts compacting herself still in that upright position, and then clunk, there's the egg! She does not make a peep when she does it either, and rarely does the egg song.

All my hens I've watched lay an egg will stand up to push it out. It's not far to fall but I would say they do fall. I use the excelsior nest pads. They have a hard time kicking the material out of the nest and they last a long time.

know what I mean Vern?

Is silly a bad word these days? Verbally incorrect or something?

If my cockerel doesn't lighten up on my BR pretty soon he is GONE!
I don't know why he has singled her out to harrass her.
But it's got me a little worried.
I am hoping that it's just because she was giving him and the new girls a harder time than the other older girls were, so he is trying to put her in her place.
But geez! Does he have to be so abusive?
I have watched him with the others and how he treats them and how he mounts them.
Much more gentlemanly, I would say.
I will keep watching and see if it gets better or worse.
Off to work!
Have a great day everyone!

I don't think so ?? The word most often heard in that phrase might sound like S T U PID ! But since that is not a kind word I am not allowed to say it. See my mammy always told me if I didnt has a kind word to say then don't say nuttin !

I'm sewing a saddle today for one of my EE - the roos prefer her, and her back is just starting to look a little roughed up. I think she has stopped laying, either that or has a nest somewhere in the yard that I have not discovered. She is behaving normally, her usual feisty self; always the first to grab any snacks I throw out to them and she chases off anyone who comes near when she eats.

I have to get rid of one of my Barnie boys. The bigger boy bit me hard the other day when I was petting my BO hen under her wings by her shoulders. (She does not let the roos mount her, still thinks its supposed to be a shoulder rub. She runs up to all humans, squata and is very vocal which makes all the roosters come running. This is the same silly hen who chases the John Deere tractor around, and squats for it no matter who is driving.) The roo drew blood from my thumb - looks like fang marks with blue around it.

My other Barnie roo was the runt and is not quite as handsome. He chases down the hens, but whenever he mounts one, my Orpington roo runs over and jumps on him as if he's the hen. Maybe I need to get rid of them all.

I have no clue what it refers to either, even with the hint.

being unhappy with my wifes mood swings, I bought her a mood ring the other day so I would be able to monitor her moods.

I've discovered that when she's in a good mood, it turns green. When she's in a bad mood, it leaves a big red mark on my forehead.
