Dang it! That sounds so fun! We are going to the Autumn Leaf Festival in Leavenworth with our 5th Wheel that weekend.

I have Dessert Kings too but I just planted them this year in the hen's pasture. I also have a Petit Negri in the greenhouse, and that baby is growing FAST in there. Already gave me a fig on its first year.

well Desert Kings are a pick and eat fruit.... they will literally melt to a puddle of sugar if left out on the counter or something.
We pick and jam at same time to help keep them tasting best.

The one split in half is almost ripe... when really ripe they are kinda mushy/squishy/juicy

Whew! Tonight I am exhausted after prepping my own birds and vet checking all the Open Poultry for the Puyallup Fair. We have the usual top competitors, the usual farm birds entered by all the kids to get their free fair tickets, and, my favorite, the girl who always puts fingernail polish on the nails of her Rhode Island Red hen. There are 34 seramas entered in our first ever tabletop show here in the Northwest- very exciting. I saw a couple of BYC buds. Good luck to all!

I'm back from vacation

It was lots of fun, but I missed my kids & girls! And they were excited to see me

I took some pics of our broody setup to show Candy/Kanake's eggs that Juno (aka Miss Fluffy Butt) is sitting on. We use the burlap to cover the door opening when it's warm so she feels secure but still has a breeze.

Here she is all fluffy...

And then when she was settling back on the nest, I heard a really loud "POP" and immediate stink

Sorry Candy - that was one that had Caroline written on it. It was not developing. I should try to candle tonight or tomorrow - probably tomorrow as Juno's pretty upset about me having to clean out her nest and move her eggs out of the basket to clean it and then back into the basket out from under her. I'm lucky she is a nice broody girl and didn't get pecked, she sure was fussed!
