hey Dawn, inquiring minds want to know -- were you able to candle the remaining eggs?

any more duds?

I'm going to do the water dunk check before I pass along any more hatching eggs -- though all those you got had been laid either that day, the day before, or the day before that

POSSIBLY one of those eggs was laid in midmorning, and one or another of the gals seems to keep the nest box "hot" from about 10 AM until 5 PM ... which I suppose could start the egg developing, then it would stop when I collect it and bring it inside

usually I collect the morning batch about noon, and the afternoon batch about 5 .. but it's happened that some have been laid later than that, also happened on days I'm really tired, that I don't get out there twice a day

Nope - I have not yet candled. To be honest - I'm afraid to - I'm always afraid I'll drop the egg! But I'll try tonight. (The last time I tried with blue eggs I couldn't see anything.)

I am not concerned - I think your hatching eggs will do great

they will do what they will do and Miss Juno will be happy with the results, I'm sure! If only you could see her in her broody trance...she came out for a bit this morning but was back in after about 20 minutes. My son is so excited for her to hatch the eggs and has been sneaking her treats of mealworms and this morning's waffle. He had a friend over and it was so great to hear him explaining the broody behavior and why she was hunting for rocks ("they're her teeth!") and how he was going to have new baby chicks in a week. Juno only thinks they're hers

Anyway - thanks again - we'll be sure to have the camera out next weekend. They are due Saturday, but last time she hatched they came a day earlier than expected so it could be as early as Friday but by Sunday morning at the latest I'm sure.

yes, I'm very excited to see what your broody hatches from those eggs --- and also to see how the eggs at Dana's, turn out once they get their first true feathers

from her initial picture, it looked like at least a couple of them had fluffy muffs

Helaine said she has a broody cochin, but we won't know for sure if her hen will STAY broody long enough for her to get some eggs from me also --- she was going to wait until Dana organized a chicken-get-together at the wine shop, either this coming Wednesday or the one after ...

too darned hot for me to drive all the way to Olalla ... unless we need to organize a relay for some other chickens or eggs as well ... DH needs the car here, and my Trooper doesn't have A/C, also its transmission is making funny noises, I don't want to go far from home

I notice that the eggs I'm getting, the last three or four days, are very PALE
even the stuffed-green-olive egg (Becky's) is slightly less pigmented

d'you think it's the hot weather? just can't see "pale stone" as an Easter Egg color

(I'm assuming it's Phoebe's usually-turquoise-blue since Ginger's pink is still definitely pink, and the other three look green-ish)
