You are an exceptional (grown) child!
You are also so very lucky to have grown up in the wilds where you are, in that beautiful Washington Coast!!

I had some awesome pics of Shasta that has those circular clouds over it alot...but cannot find them, but I did stroll down Memory Lane & here is some pics from Mt Konocti at Clear Lake (NorCal ) and some of the fish we caught there.

I am still convinced the entire lake is a Cauldera (sp?)

The 2 Mts were 1, and apparently blew apart at some point, but were a ridge of a huge volcanic crater (Cauldera)

I am all for original pronunciations over colloquial ones. For instance, Pierre South Dakota is pronounced "peer" instead of the french "pee-air". In Dubois, Pennsylvania they say "do boyz" instead of the french "doo bwah".

For many parts of the USA , towns, lakes, streets and parks have Native american names that were translated into french and no one is left around who spoke the original language so we often have to infer the pronunciation.

My two pet peeves are "Warshington" and "Haaalaa peen oo"

How about sko-ko-MISH ?
And wil-a-PA? With the last syllable the biggest and with most ppl they say the word with the front syllable the biggest ??

Or Loup Loup Pass--named after some French dude and should be pronounced "Loo Loo" but people here say the P so it's Loop Loop.

Really? I did not know that. I never really knew what/who it was named after/for.

oh, and BTW...the baby photos are gorgeous. You think 7 weeks went by...just wait it will seem like tomorrow and she will be 7 and then you will go and blink and she will be 17. Truly, it is that fast. enjoy every second...even when you are so mad at her because she just took all your makeup and played with it or painted the walls....or whatever.

Loup is wolf, why its doubled is beyond me, but in Native Languages sometimes saying things more than once pluralizes it.

Today, I heard a BBC'er call Maryland Mary Land

I grew up in the deserts of Utah actually.

Why oh why are there like 50 slugs on my porch and crawling up the sliding glass door, and the walls of the house, and the windows?? They're not even all the same species.

Heard all of the coyote pups howling tonight- moving, though, started out up by my cousin's and ran off to the southwest, ended up over by Long Lake- there may be carp spawing there, it's the right time of year, and they get stranded in the swamps.

Things need finished. This was not a good week to get sick.

I used to dislike slugs

even when I wasn't nurturing and cherishing a garden

these days I rather appreciate the blobs ... and why ?

because they come out at night, crawl through the chicken run, and EAT much of the poo there

any of them that delay hiding out when it gets light and we let the chickens out of the coop, then become additional protein sources

Just one more reason ya should come to the tour of wineries this weekend or the Apple harvest Oct 1 and if you can't make either of those I will be at Stevenson for the show. And remember to have yer pay-pal info as I will have my laptop and ya can do pay pal on site for your purchasese.

It's been a really good year for slugs. Which is fine with me, because my gartersnakes have all reproduced like whoa. I didn't have any for a few years- my Dad burned a brush pile the residents were hibernating in. Except last night when I went out to give Bacchus his alfalfa pellets, the whole yard was alive with them, and a lot of them were those extra-creepy big leopard spotted ones that just.... brrrrrr

That's nice; it would make a good wall-medallion, too, or a gate counterweight.
