My chickens are thankfull for that soft bite too. Last year when Shasta was still a big puppy, I caught her "playing" with a none too happy New Hampshire Red. The poor hen was as slobbery as a favorite tennis ball, missing a few feathers (well, a few more than a few), but NO BLOOD! Shasta was just playing fetch with a self-propelled feathery ball!

The problem, she says, is getting it out of the yard. Many people have called, a few have even showed up with trailers, but it's nearly impossible to remove. They thought about taking the neighbor's fence down and going through their yard, but they have a nonworking car parked right there. (I asked if we could move it, and she said she hadn't thought of that). No one has tried to take the roof off - she said it's rather solid and probably a lot of the total weight. And she's nearly in Renton, which is a considerable distance from me...

I have been working with Romeo like crazy, but that squatty little man WILL NOT stand up! Any pointers?? Son is showing the Serama, we may not put Romeo on the table...

PS~~ yes, we will be in on Friday night--heading down after school...

I posted once before but must have gotten missed, is anyone bringing a near POL LF pullet of a calm breed for sale at Stevenson? I have prepurchesed a pullet from CloverLeaf Farm and would like to find a buddy for her in qurantine, my LF are Speckled Sussex and very calm and non agressive. I prefer to buy from BYC's I know that we care for our chooks, rather than someone unknown.

I was going to Eprinex today as well, but am having second thoughts due to all the molting that is going on right now. Is that too much stress on the hens? The light Sussex looks funny now, she lost so many feathers, and when you feel her,it is all pin-feathers under that fluffy white down (whitest I've ever seen her - she usually is rolloing around somewhere in the mud, but now she seems to want to keep her new feathers clean and rolls in the wood-chip instead).

Is a 6 month old bird too young to worm? I heard somwhere that they should be no younger than 8 months, I also heard 20 weeks, 18 weeks and 16 weeks.

Sorry about your hand Illia, big dogs can hurt us without meaning to, My golden I had,(loved that dog) I could train him not to jump on us from the front but every once in a while he would do a sneak jump when we were going UP the deck stairs and knock us flat. Well he did it once to often and DH said it was time to go, he was 3 yrs and the time.

It's cornless, not wheatless- I'll have to check the ingrediants before we go further, and I'm having a spectacularly bad morning on the joint pain/UGI pain end of things. So getting down where we store the dog food and checking isn't going to happen for a bit.

I may not be able to get out to Cooper Point today and get the broody hen. It's possible that I have pushed my body past the point where I need to take care of it instead of pretending it still works perfectly well and forging ahead with the exertion.
