Wow - I just forwarded that information to the woman who was planning on taking my EE chicks. I don't think she's had a second to build a coop yet. This would be perfect for them!

I already talked to DH about moving that flock block we bought at Wilco last weekend into the run so the girls have something to peck at. And while I'm out running errands today maybe I'll pick up a cabbage. I'm not too clever, but maybe I can tie some twine around it and hang it from the rafters in the coop. A swinging head of cabbage in the run should scare the heck out of them for a day or so.

Just make extra sure that the twine is SUPER secure at the other end...we had someone bring one of their chickens into the emergency clinic with a piece of twine hanging out of her mouth that had been used to hang a cabbage....it went all the way through her...wasn't much to be done because the owner couldn't afford surgery, so we cut it as far down as we could and hoped it would pass....

Ah jeepers. So if the hawk doesn't kill my chickens, there's always a possibility that *I* might. Thank you for the warning Jeanine! I'll try to make it very secure.

I have to tell you something that Henrietta has been doing.

She's the auntie of all the chicks. She has tried to get Juno to feed her, but she just won't.

So when Juno tells the kids there is something to eat - they all (including Henrietta) come over to get it. Then Henrietta will pick up the food and drop it on the ground JUST LIKE MAMA JUNO - but then instead of letting the chicks eat it - she eats it herself as fast as she can! LOL Funniest thing ever! Pick up - drop - eat. Pick up - drop - eat.

Ah...love my chickens!

Girl babies will be more fledged all over, evenly, backs & all.

Cockerals stay fuzzy-bald on their backs alot longer as well as sprouting a tail lastly...
Some breeds differ, but most all hen chicks, fledge faster, evenly all over the body.
Cockerals fledge here & there, in patches.
