Ginger's pink eggs are usually the smallest of the bunch, I wasn't sure if a chick would hatch from any of them ... and of course she is NOT carrying the blue egg gene ... though I'm fairly sure Roopert is ... we will see if that is so, if any of Ginger's chicks mature and lay eggs

Yippy. Call in to the equine vet. One of the boarded horses here has a severe case of the runs.

At first I thought it was being caused by to many apples being fed to him... But now I am not so sure. Yesterday his manure started to solidify, today his entire back end is covered in watery fecal matter. I already had a talk with the neighbors, asked them to not allow their kids to feed the horses anymore, and explained why. Had the same talk with my mother and little 12 year old brother. None of the horses have had any apples in 3 days... Everybody else if just fine, just poor Red.

I have no clue what is causing it, and no idea how to treat it.

Ugg. Sometimes I wish the horses wern't here. Sure would make my life much less complicated.

Quarta is of interest to me, she is very pale but noticibly chipmunk striped. I've got to go look at the shells and figure out which chick is out of which egg. Was not precisely awake when I took her out if the incubator at 4:30am or so.

the variation in the chick's coloration seems to be at least partly due to the rooster

from what we have seen so far, he is basically a silver duckwing, but carrying Columbian genes, and possibly gold also
the hens all APPEAR to be gold duckwings, but we are guessing that several of them may also be carrying Columbian genes
two of them (Deirdre and Phoebe) have partly or mostly black heads, and are clean faced (the other four are muffed and bearded)
Ginger is perceptibly more mahogany colored than the other five

I'll have to get into DH's computer to get pictures of them as several-week-old chicks (his camera is lost; no idea where, we know he had it at the Sounders' game, hasn't been seen since)

my memory says there were four mostly-yellow/gold chipmunk chicks, one brown chipmunk, one rusty red chipmunk, and one quite-dark-brown NON-chipmunk, who turned into the rooster (black and silver feathers replaced the mink-brown as he feathered out)
