Now that's interesting!

Well, I didn't get to go to the show.

I had a HORRIBLE weekend.

We had to euthanize my little goat, "Tillie" (Matilda of the Mist)

She is the one on the right, with the black collar. She had been so sick, and we brought her into the garage, but by Sunday, it was obvious she wasn't going to make it. She hadn't been able to stand for nearly a week.

I cried, and cried.

AND, only a few weeks ago, I lost my favourite little WCB Polish, "Sadie".

Sometimes life sucks BIG-TIME

This whole exchange makes me think of dog shows. It sounds as though the show was lacking in the kinds of birds I'd like to see. It would be like going to a dog show with no herding dogs. But, but...it was great, say the toy breed fans and the working breed fans, and so on. If there were no herding dogs, it would be lacking IMO. Does that mean I would enter my dog?? No. He's not show quality. I don't worry about buying show quality dogs. Why would I be part of the problem? I don't think so. It's not up to me to make the show a herding dog show. JMO.

Anyway...

Dana's two white (silver??) birds are now hanging out in a big open-topped (but covered) cardboard box in my shed. The coop cannot get done too soon.

Leavenworth's "official" dance is the chicken dance.... maybe somewhere in the area (fair grounds or just somewhere in town)... just an idea.

have a NCW unofficial bird show. all of the fun and none of the seriousness.

Living on the east side of the mountains and as a college student i miss out on opportunities like shows. i did go to fairs in this area but none of the birds were really special... i did see a few exhibition quality brahmas... why they were in colfax i will never know....

It doesn't have to be "official" bird show... just a chance for us to get together, chat and as a group consider the standards of a birds quality. this would include mutts and project birdies.

Most of my flock is either not recognized breeds or "farm quality".

I know judges are the final say and trained....... but a group of people have a lot of brain power to know what quality is... i know birds are different than horses... but how hard could it be to judge a bird on overall qualities?

Just a thought.....

OK so time for me to come clean.

Yes I bought a trio of black Am B from Cloverleaf. CLF entered the two pullets but not the cockerel. They were shown in the youth class by her DS. One of them was judged Youth AOCCL RES. I am very pleased with my new birds and do not think that Jeanine dumped her rejects on me like I jokingly said. As for tha egg ............. well I don't think either has laid and the egg I showed was from T HI's Daffy . Toni left it for us sunday and I just couldn't resist having some fun. Sorry if I hurt any feelings or caused anybody ANY problems over this.

So sorry that you lost Tillie. She looks very sweet. And also sorry about Sadie - I don't think we heard about her until now.
It's a tough thing, caring for our animals sometimes. "Livestock" or pets, losing them is a sad prospect.

Ultrasol, were you wearing a chicken print blouse on Sat.? I saw someone watering the geese. I was taking pics of them, I approached carefully haveing been chased and bitten by them as a kid, they were just wonderful!
