I love my friends!
One of my friends who I used to work with is Samoan and lives in American Samoa but is currently in Seattle.
She called me and said for us to stay at her house and her kids will pick us up at airport!
Now mom and I will be staying in a village in a personal home and really experiencing the local life!

and while it is a few months away, all my BYC friends are invited to come visit us on Maui once we have the main house available to us (roughly February, depending on when our current tenants leave) .. we have three bedrooms, use only one of them, and also have an enclosed lanai with futon ....

chickens free ranging in the back yard, fruit for the picking

you do have to put up with: roosters in the neighborhood crowing at all hours; mynahs screeching; geckos vocalizing (sounds like someone knocking at the door); dust (we are right downwind from the soccer/baseball/playground fields at the community center); mosquitoes; and sundry bugs (it's Paradise for them too, though the chickens catch most of them)

edited to fix fumblefingered spelling

Thats really cool! Some of the friendliest people I have ever met are Samoan! I hope you have a great time! And take lots of pics so those of us who cant afford a trip like that can live through you! hehehe

Oh please be careful of what you 'allow'. My company allows me to work remotely. I wonder if my broadband card would get a signal from a surf-board? Hmmm....

yes you can get a signal off the beach in Kihei .... that is, IF your electronics are waterproof !

we are nowhere near the beach, we can SEE them ... but we are at 1300 feet altitude up Haleakala ... nearest beach, by the airport, is 15 minutes' driving time; the GOOD beaches are 30 minutes to an hour away

it's cooler "upcountry" ... we live in your standard bedroom-community suburb ... nothing particularly tropical except the foliage, flowers, and fruit ... lots of kids going to the school a block or so away, lots of garage sales on weekends ... most everyone has an "ohana" (cottage) on the property in addition to the main house
