yes, our house WAS , not sugar cane because that doesn't like to grow at altitude, but pineapple fields, until Maui Pine sold the land off for development, say 30-some years ago
we can see the fields in the valley, but the land is too sloped, and we have too many trees, to see the nearby fields .. oh, eight or ten blocks below us ... whole place is on about a 20* slope, so have very little level land; the house foundation had to be dug into the ground and filled below; many of the houses in the area are either terraced in, or on stilts
Google up Pukalani, lots and LOTS of houses for sale or rent ... there's always someone moving in or out ... and still a good many lots for sale without houses on them yet (not quite California prices, but certainly not cheap, even though this is probably the least expensive property anywhere near paved roads)
