You have the cutest little chicken. I had me a couple of chicks just like it, but they just got big and ornery after awhile, so I had to make them go away. The feathered chickens look very happy also.

Oh JB be careful of cat doors & the rat thing..you never know what will crawl in, sub divisions in WA are not immune to wildlife, coyotes in Wallingford, bears on mercer Island...a raccon attacked a woman walking her dog, last year, in downtown Seattle on a stairclim, remember?
The dog was brutally attacked, then the racoon flew at the woman and landed on her face & did some serious damage in a short amount of time.

DH called, and said he had heard a vechicle revving it's engine WAAAY up, ready to explode, then the tires squeeled and they went through the gears still had it floored, and sqreeeeeeeeeeeeetch it left the pavement & sailed through the air about 40 yards & landed in a distant neighbor's garden, tearing through his big greenhouse, and landed & bounced for a while, coming to rest on it's side, with the neighbor's little flatbed trailer on top of it...smoking & twisted, wheels still spinning, 3 guys got out, 2 in dark clothes & 1 old guy in light clothes who looked really drunk.
All were banged up but they hauled buns down the road.
The river is right there, so maybe they were shooting for the river..in any event, they saw DH in our van on his cell calling 911, and they waved and tried to tell him not to call the cops.
Too late, a fire dept ambulance was heard in the distance from 1 direction, and a sherriff's siren from the other.
My turkeys did not like the sirens and were all gobbling.....
lol.png

So the sheriff got 2 guys, and neighbors down there said they saw 1 guy get into a brown truck that stopped to pick him up, amidst much maniacal laughter.
So that's all I know.
Bet ya these 3 guys got plastered, and stole an ex-wife's or GF truck, and tried to wreck it and walk away....it was definetly done on purpose.
See what happens on lonely country roads when idiots think no one is watching..no one lives out here?

I've thought about getting one. What kind did you get? I'm wondering how thrilled DH would be if I bought him one for Christmas. Though I'm afraid after 20 years he's caught on to my knack for buying him something as a gift that he knows I want.

Sounds like CL has seen WAY too much stuff happening on her property. Hopefully mine wouldn't be quite as "revealing". Seeing critters invade your yard after dark might be scary though. Don't know if I'd ever be able to sleep well again!

I bought a "BUSHNELL 5MP Trophy Cam Trail Camera, Brown Case (119435C)" from Amazon I was able to buy a "used" one. It is most likely a returned item, giving that it is still in the packaging, and being shipped by Amazon. The cam had more positive feed back on than did any of the other cams. I just don't know enough about games cams to be able to make a better decision on make or model. If I can make operate, I will be posting a result. I know for certain that one of the cats will be more than willing to try it out.

Yay for happy chickens!

I was happy to help as well.

I just got back from Lowes to pick up a light for inside as my girls will have to have a little bit of warmth for a while. They are inside my house right now and it only gets to around 60 in the room they are in. I have the hanging feeder and water, but just noticed the floor to the coop (which is also the ceiling to the lower play area) is thin enough where my hook would come out the other side. So I get to head back to Lowes to get two 2x4 and slap them up there.

And the door inside, while big enough for me to clean up, a little tight for a grown man to wedge himself in to do some wiring on the ceiling. It will get done and I may be the one in there installing the light, which I'm fine with.

A length of gutter also makes an use to use and fill feeder. CR showed DH and I that trick. I use some for oyster shell.

sounds like something they'd do in Wyoming!! LOL

But did you ever think a deer could get in a little cat door????????

Hallerlake::: I just went through loosing my labrador Samantha.
She was so wonderful the chickens used to sneek in her dog house & steal her food...Samantha was so perfect I could leave her IN a chicken pen, and they all got along.
Samantha..Sam I am, Sammy wammy, Oh-Sammi-been-Labbin', we have so many fun songs we used to sing to her..and so much fun, she was always with me, even at work, she was always with me.
I have deep survivor's guilt still, that I should be with her, not to mention the guilt of leading her to the ultimate deception...she was so old and blind & deaf that if you went to pet her it startled her badly, she could not hear my voice.
She got to the point of wandering off ...quickly, as if panicked, and she would look around as if scared & lost, no doubt seeing only blackness from cataracts.
At 16 years old, I took her to be euthanised.
We had a grave dug & ready behind the house foundation, and she lay on a bright big beach towel, so we could carry her back & fold the towel around her..I will miss her everyday for the rest of my life.
This happened a year ago, most of you remember.
So I know how you feel..and wish you strength in your decisions & care of the old friend

I know you have been dealing with the poor old guy for a long time now...
If I can be of any help..do not hesitate to contact me...I will do whatever I can.

Anyone need a pair of very pretty mille fleur cochin bantams? I had them sold and they were supposed to be picked up today and the lady backed out two hours before she was supposed to come and get them.

Now, I'm left with too many chickens and not enough room before winter.

Unless I mix breeds--which I will probably have to do until spring anyway....

I would trade for two lavender female Muscovies, or two female silver muscovies....or a pair of white calls.

We have a 4' length of aluminum rain gutter with a float on it (toilet type) that DH hooked to drip irrigation line to a 5 gallon bucket!!
lau.gif

We use it for the meat birds, as 25 meat birds would empty a 1 gallon water font 10 X a day.
Towards the end, just before butcher day, they were drinking 4-5 gallons a day!
He added hog rings to the side, and it hung right on the outside of the 2x4 wire fence..so I could dump it if it was dirty, and the birds stuck their heads through the fence to drink.
A great idea.
DH can be Einstein every so often...............I still hate the snoring though!!!!!!!!!!!

Or a quarter side of beef, or 20# of pork, or a side of Elk, or 1 ton of alfalfa.....or....

Sorry she backed out.
I have the same thing with this princess white silky!!!!!! (in my clay mud!!!!!)

I DID find homes for the pea fowl though...and we did get them trapped in a shed next door which actually looks like could be a nice coop...

I wandered a bit over there, all the mobile homes still have washers & dryers in them & assorted other stuff.
There is garbage, busted beer bottles & furniture, crock pots, houseplants, rugs, beds & frames & mattresses & crap everywhere...but OK washer & dryer..hmmmmmmmmmm:rolleyes:
