My little project this morning was/is putting down chicken wire on the ground around the coop. Honestly, as much difficulty as I've had putting it down (using garden staples), I can't imagine the ground would be very easy to dig in. But I'm hoping to minimize the chance anyway.

I also got some wood pellets, since that sounded like a nice bedding and run floor material. But the coop sits underneath a couple of big evergreen trees, and so the run is currently covered in needles. I don't see much point in covering the entire area in wood pellets just yet. I was afraid it would immediately turn into a big mud/poo pit, but maybe that won't happen for a while...?

When I got my first baby chicks I used the same metal water trough that you are using. I started with pellets as the bedding and HATED them. went back to shavings. cheaper too I think. Has anyone tried or heard of Euskal Oiloa chickens. I have been lurking on that thread for a while and am thinking on them for next spring.

These are the burning type pellets. I read another thread on here where people were talking about using them. (Hi VF!) We use a very similar (if not identical) product in our cat's litter pan, called Feline Pine, so I'm aware that they break down. Until the wind gets going, it won't be very wet in the run. Maybe it won't work well, in which case I'll either burn the pellets or have a large supply of cat litter.

OK I am looking for a possible relay. I have a few (about 6 or so) empty feed sack that are looking for a ride to the Portland area. Also if others had empties to ride along too I am sure they would be appreciated.

Hi all!
DH got his buck & I butcherd & skinned and have him hanging.
I will not post pics if anyone is too sensitive...so let me know.
I also made my own avatar, as I said I would earlier & JB can have the cracked egg.
So, what did I miss today ?
I have to collect eggs & wash them yet...we went through the tick check & shower & did a load of laundry.
Only found 3 little ticks...

But you know how I am with ticks!

So, guess I will be back later!
Got eggs to collect & maybe start a new carton of Buckeyes to set.

My Mammo is Wednesday....and I would MUCH rather have a mammo then not know what is going on.
I would much rather 'catch' anything going on then let it grow...every woman needs a mammogram.

There is nothing scarey about it.
There is nothing dangerous about it.
It is a bit uncomfortable for a MINUTE, but gives you peace of mind that can last you a long time that you might otherwise not have.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, proceeds from several well known organizations pay for all to get a free mammogram, this month only.
I forgot last year & went in November, and my insurance had to pay for it.
If you have questions, call your Doc's office to see if you are covered.
