We are off shortly to spend the rest of the day in Seattle. Mom has gotten tickets to the PNB to take the girls to see the Nutcracker. They are all busy primping and getting ready. DH and I have seen it before, so we will be dropping them off and going to the Pike Place Market and wherever else we end up. Then we will be picking them up after the show and going to Ivar's for dinner.

Tomorrow we are going to decorate the tree and have a veg day. Mom might see if she can re-book her flight home. She's scheduled to leave EARLY tuesday morning but has a connection in Dallas. I keep telling her now that she's in MASS and not CT she should be flying direct from Boston to Seattle on Alaska. So we are going to see if she can try that on her way home. She's getting older and with her bum leg, it would be so much shorter of a trip for her to take that flight direct instead of dealing with lay over's and connecting flights.

Hope you all are having a fantabulous weekend!!!

How is Mom doing??
Walking OK or on cane or walker?

She is doing soooooo much better. She has a cane she uses at home if she needs it but didn't bring it. She's only been without her brace for about a month, so the ligaments/tendons are still shaky and will take a long time to heal. Doctor said it may take up to 2 yrs if they even heal 100% at all. When she gets tired, the leg hurts, and she doesn't like the feeling of all the metal in there, but is glad to still have her leg!

More "overcoming" than "overcome" but I'm not running a fever and actually managed to eat two whole slices of toast this morning.

And I just put 8 EE cockerels on Craigslist, with a bonus sack of feed if somebody takes them all. Because I really do need to get rid of them that much.

(80% sure it's 8 cockerels, which means there may be one or two pullets; on the other hand, I'm only about 60% sure the 6 I'm keeping are pullets, and that's being optimistic: some mornings I look at them and would swear they're ALL cockerels).

I'm not ready for layer yet. I wonder if they have a good deal on growth/developer.

How do you store multiple bags of feed? In my shed, they get chewed open.

Galvanized garbage cans. I hear that people without tons of Eastern Grey Squirrels can use plastic: they buzz through even the heavy-duty ones here.

Thanks for all the answers. Kansas being the 3rd on the list of state with the most roads, only California and Texas have more roads than Kansas, there is always detours and if you don't like the one that KDOT marked it is easy to go down country dirt roads and make your own.

I guess I take for granite driving in Kansas. To drive to Kansas City (60 mile) will take less then an hour, Wichita (130 Miles) less then 2 hours and driving to Denver (542 miles) will take about 7 hours without potty and food breaks.

This may make a little more sense to ya. Imagine a very large river that only has a bridge across it every 100 miles. That is basically what it is like only instead of river it is large mountain range that is being crossed.

Makes sense.

This somewhat relates to chicken, so I'm going to post it here to share with you guys. My cousin's husband has a t-shirt company called Eatmorekale.com. The fast food company Chik-Fil-A, is putting up a fight against him getting a federal trademark for his company name, saying it conflicts with their Eat More Chicken marketing campaign.

I'd love it if you could all sign his petition at http://www.change.org/petitions/chick-fil-a-stop-bullying-small-business-owners

Here's a clip of him on the news last night: http://www.wcax.com/story/16121692/vt-artist-takes-on-fast-food-giant

Thanks for looking!

You brought it up so I can mention WS-DOT without feeling like I'm advertising my husband's business (he's a sysadmin/desk top support for a bunch of specialist engineering people like Photogrametry) but this is the page I was looking at yesterday. Today I feel like tearing my hair out: the snow level went up sufficiently that the whole way right through is bare and wet.

(Ah, "bare and wet," like "stop and go traffic from {the brewery} Tully's to the ship canal" "road closed from Grand Mound to Napavine for water over roadway" or "sunbreaks:" list of specialist terms for life in Washington).

And I work for KDOT

YEAH!!!! Will you have any bells there?

We decided not to show but we will be down to visit, or at least I will. Not sure if the girls are coming or not, although I know Meg is very excited about her bantam Fav eggs!!!

Too busy with mom visiting to properly prep the birds, and no extra money with repairing the furnace and the holidays and DH is expecting a call any day that his new Beetle is in.

Yes I will have bells there. I think I have 6 in the trailer right now.
