This was a big deal for the calls.. having a champion PASTEL!! go up as Best Bantam Duck. Totally cool. Yes, I know, she was a call duck.. BUT she wasn't white or gray!

Watch out.. pretty soon there will be a Butterscotch up. muahahahah!

It was very fun seeing everyone yesterday. I know I didn't get to say hi or bye to a lot of people, but it was really nice.

Good food, good friends, good times.

Until it's a butterscotch, I'll still WAAAH about it not being a 'manly' duck or a big ole goose!

Speaking of which,.. how much do you think it will take to get mark to show some muscovies?

I thought the purpose of a Capon was so he would grow nice and big, and be tender for when you ate him. They are about 10-12 lbs, bit smaller than a turkey and good for my family of 2 (lots of leftovers so I don't have to cook every night). I had a capon a few weeks back - fabulous

Size is also breed dependent. I ahve heard they will brood chicks and will still protect the flock some. Dunno.

How about a green egg layer? Jean Ribbeck of Pips n Peeps lives near Spokane and raises Ameraucanas

OK... maybe I'm wrong but I thought pure Ameraucanas lay blue eggs?......
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

drive safe!! what color are the pullets you got?? pics when you get home. and if you find a tarp, you can wrap that big crate up like a christmas present and they will stay warm. lots of bungee cords

Gimp is a pretty nice guy, he will keep the girls warm

The pullets are black also. Very nice ladies. They will stay with Mr. Gimp until the lav are really big enough to do their job....so they will have a few months together. I could get a tarp.....and I could wrap them up...you don't think they would get too cold? That is so what I am afraid of. They would be up against the cab. ...I have a box I could wrap around the cage too and then the tarp and then the bungee cords.

I dunno. He is already treating the young girls nicely. He is being a gentleman.

pics when you can!! its soooo quiet here.... lol. if you wrap the crate like a christmas present, and make sure all the ends are secured and tucked under the crate so it CANT flap in the wind. they should be fine. wont even get a breeze on them wrapped up like that. very nice of CR to loan you a crate!

Actually I went ahead and bought it from him....not something he needed any more and it is working great for the birds. I think I will go ahead and try them in the back of the truck. I will go and buy a tarp.

I will send photos when I get home once I get to let them loose. I promise. Let him get settled in. Oh, I had a coop that I had "dubbed" the coop for the orps...needs the insides finished....but is insulated...one problem. I did not cut the door for them big enough.....LOL....got to do that tomorrow.

Hello Washingtonians!!

There is no way I could read through all of this thread but I see I missed out on a good time in Chehalis. I live out on the coast and hope to have a small backyard flock in the spring. I had chickens about 13 years ago and have been on a quest to have another little flock since then. Hopefully all will go well and and I can have my little chicks in a few months!

I am looking forward to getting to know you all!
