Just wanted to get on here and post a big Thank You to Ultasol for the pair of silkies she sold to DD. She told me in the car she really wanted to try to buy some buffs if she had enough money but when she saw your pair of white she was excited. She got to show them off to family tonight and was so proud of them and that she worked to save the money so she could buy them herself. It really made her feel good about chickens again.
Also Thank You to Chicken Rusler for introducing us to some people and for being so nice as to invite us to the show and pot luck to begin with.
The food was great and people were great to.
I have to say tho I wish I wasn't such a zombie so I could have gotten to know a few more people and chatten chicken! Was up till about 4am with colic baby and then up at 630am to drive to show so I wasn't myself with less than 3 hours of sleep. I know I am a traitor for going to a washington show, but I would really love to get to know a few more people on the other side
Seem to be alright folks to me no horns or tails visible at leased

Or If I may (I'm gonna any way) I would heat the soup at home then wrap the pots in towels and all the crock pots would have to do is warm it a bit more.
It was to long of a drive to be able to keep it hot enough to be safe.
I was trying not to give everyone food poisoning.
While I have never really need the food handlers card, I do have one. And I did manage to pass the test with a 100% correct.

Oh man! I missed Ogress too!! I didn't know you were there???
well.... please forgive me and I hope we can meet at the next one!! Oh Broody! it was good to finally meet you and your DH, sorry I talked his ear off! That's squidllys ya know!! LOL! glad you guys made it home safe!!
Sorry missed you too! Maybe Monroe in the spring?
I was only there for about 2 hours, until my kids were about to kill each other, and my son stuffed himself so full at the pot-luck that he decorated his room! On our way down there I made both kids repeat what they were allowed to eat - a sandwich (we picked up bread and deli meat), veggies and TWO snacks! When I caught DD with 4 pieces of fudge on her plate she tried to say she was bringing them to me! I don't know how many she ate earlier, but she preferred the chocolate to the Peanut Butter which is unusual for her, and DS liked the peanut butter better, and he usualy does not like PB! He said his favorite food there was the ginger cookies. I think when I told him 2 snacks, he decided it meant 2 of each snack, and if he did not like one, he could substitute the second for one he liked better. He is good at reasoning like that since I did not clarify that it was a TOTAL of 2 snacks.
So glad he liked the Ginger Cookies! I didn't plan any food since I wasn't sure I was coming until I walked out the door. I just grabbed the cookies I made the night before, luckily there were some left. They paled in comparison to what was there already though. Great food!

I am so pleased that WE were able to help. I could tell that the little lady (didn't catch her name) was very happy about her "new" chickens when she told me about them.
To my knowledge Or doesn't have any "open" shows just at Fairs. So if ya wanna do the shows yajust might have to come to this side of the creek.
It was nice to meet you and hope to see you around more.
Also I ended up with the last bits of your dessert's. Loved the punkin cheese cake.

IMHO, the Muscovy makes really wonderful, but very RICH meat, plus, the drakes grow very fast and produce a huge breast in no time.
Not sure which is better, the Khaki Campbell or the Welsh Harlequin for egg laying. I know that Harlies can lay UP TO 350 eggs per year, and often outlay chickens. The eggs are big, but are otherwise like chicken eggs. (Muscovy eggs are a bit "snotty", the white part is gooey and icky until it's cooked, and they lay for a short season, but hubby loves them)
We breed Muscovies, and have just recently got two breeding pairs pf Harlies, with 10 chicks ordered for spring.
(Nice to meet you yesterday
)
Nice meeting you too! Thanks for the duck info. I was considering egg layers then possibly down the road the meat ducks. I've always loved ducks but if I have them they have to 'work for food'. As for laying ducks they need to be the best feed to egg conversion. Was reading about the runners and they were supposedly the best layers until the Khakis came along but the runners are so colorful and unique. They quack me up. Khakis are a little boring in the color department. The Harlequins are cute. I also like the idea of letting them go in my garden area over winter to eat the slugs. They won't do the damage that chickens do. I have 4 foot wide permanent raised beds and chickens would destroy them. I'd have to rebuild them.
Has anyone had any experience with the Golden Layer Hybrid at Metzer?

For eggs I've had excellent luck with runner (and they have light green eggs which are beautiful) but am selling all of mine because I love duck meat but don't bake much so I don't use many eggs- so muscovies and appleyards are the two meat ducks I've liked best so far.
I like the idea of the green eggs! What color and age of runners do you have?
