Oh I know that it hasn't really been colder. We had that snow around Thanksgiving last year. It just seems like there were SO many days in the 40s, when I wished it would hit 50 again, that I don't remember many colder ones. This past month has been drier and clearer though, which is nice.

all I know is I'm freezing and wishing we had a wood stove... but that would require a chimney that is not needing to be completely rebuilt.

anyone know any cheap chimney builders?

I've got her using an oil filled radiator (on loan from RonB) but she doesn't want to cover her windows - day or night!
RonB also let me try out his EdenPure unit for a few days.
I was trying to find out which would make her happiest at the lowest cost for me. (Not so much the initial cost, the EdenPure is far more than an oil radiator, I'm looking more the ongoing cost.)
It's really a concern to me as my electric bill is astronomical!
Thanks for the feedback.

I absolutely cannot get the wanting to leave windows uncovered at night thing. I have a friend whose apartment has uncovered picture windows in both the living room and bedroom and you can feel your life force being drained out through the glass- and in the summer the west facing one makes the whole place like a sauna, not good for all his electronics! But: no curtains, no blinds, no nice privacy-protecting sheers, never. He at least is fully winter-clothing enabled.

Is it a very specific kind of claustrophobia or strong difference in taste, or one of those things there's no way to tell? It's something I got well over when I started paying the bills, I know that!

With me it's claustrophobia. I hate being stuck inside especially when there is so much darkness. I'ts taking some getting use to being raised in Cali where you can see for miles. I love the beautiful trees and the green in WA but you only have to look 5 ft in front of you and there is a tree blocking your view! When we first moved here my world seemed so small. Everyone told me how I needed to to put up insulated blinds etc which we did but after almost 20 years they were ready for the dump and we haven't put anything up since. I love being able to look outside to see whats going on. I guess it might help keep heat in but we heat with a wood stove and it's always too hot anyway. Our electric bill only changes when I am incubating and have brooders full of chicks. We do however have blinds on the street side of the house for night time privacy.

I need to have someone come out and inspect our chimney.I really want to have fires in the fireplace. We bought this house 4 years ago and never had a fire in the fireplace.I've never lived anywhere that it was an option. It would be nice to have a roaring fire sometimes and cut back on the energy bill a little.

While the chimney inspection is a very good idea. If you just have a fireplace with no insert they tend not to be very effecient.

Okay I am going to share my 29th wedding anniversary gift.

These little guys were born on Dec 11th.

So tonight I wonder what Tulay would think of them. Tulay adopted the babies without question. I am going to let her raise the kids.

This little guy was having trouble hatching. I couldn't stand it anymore and so I helped the baby. I think that for some reason the humidity dropped. The 5th baby is still in the bator. I am going to check the rest of the eggs tomorrow. They all should have hatched yesterday. here is baby Splash's picture.
