Hi all!
Got a question.
Spent all afternoon at the Vets with one of my hens. (had to be my favorite) She had a prolapse trying to lay an egg. It was really bad looking. Besides the bloody egg that she layed this morning, the vet found an egg still inside (but the egg didn't have a shell!) Well the vet was able to put back all the poor hen's insides and stitch everything together. Now my question, I need to keep her away from the other hens and it would be best if she didn't lay any eggs. Has anyone ever heard or tried, feeding hens a diet of wheat for a few weeks to make them to stop laying?
I have her in our spare bathroom in a nest box. I have added a few 'fake' eggs to try and get her to go broody. She is only about 8 months old. She is so friendly and I have gotten attached, so I really don't want to put her down. (and now, after the huge vet bill, I am going to have to make her a pet!)
Thanks,
Paula
