Del's?

Hasn't gone to anyone to get her hair cut in living memory, is more sensitive to beauty shop chemicals than I am, even.

No time, no money, no taste for things that are breakable or need dusted, hands are too damaged to use something like an iPod.

Diabetic and even more sensitive to artificial sweetners than I am.

Why not? Dels is a good idea. She can use it to buy feed or garden tools, fertilizer, seed, lots of stuff there.

Last Christmas.

ETA: seriously, I think the best thing I could get her would be to find somebody to come and offer her husband $1000 plus a Boer kid for every pig he owns if he'd promise never to raise pigs again...

whats wrong with pigs?? I like pigs...mine were always good pigs. he got cheap pigs? I need more pigs...

I love pigs too! Except DH says NO. I want to raise the Heritage Gloucester Old Spots except you pretty much have to ship piglets over from the East coast since there are very few on the West coast and the gene pool is small. DH bought a plastic toy pig at Dels and gave it to me saying "Here, this is the only pig you get".

oh NO FAIR!! mine said no pigs!! also...I got 3 pigs. I caught him daily in the pig pen feeding them treats and oinking at them... he also said no chickens!! woe to the person or predator that harms a chicken around here...daily in the coop feeding them treats and he worries about them.
my pigs were easy, I fed em twice a day and kept their water clean, same as my steers. they did not get out or tear up my fencing. they had a big pen with grass, they dont really like to live in mud...a shelter and a hot fence 8 inches off the ground. I had duroc hamp crosses, they were very nice. I would like to stick with a cross but I do like the hamps and durocs, herefords too, not big on white pigs like landrace...

My DH wants pigs to go with his goats. I told him not in this house, not enough land cause they stink. I can smell the pig barn the minute I step out of the poultry barn at fair!

He doesn't usually put his foot down but he finally did with the pigs. He likes the horses and will go out and visit with them but wants nothing to do with anything else. He also didn't like the idea of buying airline tickets for pigs. LOL. I like that the pigs don't poop in their shelter and the Heritage breeds can actually live outside on pasture and even make nests and have babies on their own if given the right area. We probably couldn't pasture too many pigs here though but I wouldn't need that many. Maybe a couple of sows and you can ship semen from the East coast so you wouldn't need a boar. The Glouchester Old Spot website shows the color wheel that they use for matching up sows and boars for genetic diversity. If I got a sow in 2 different colors I could ship semen and have 2 color groups going and wouldn't need to house 2 boars.

$$$ saved on, usually, "stuff" gifts, used on utility bill -- $$$
time spent in traffic to get "stuff", used to chat with dear friend or groom old dogs -- hours
stress at feeling inadequate and inconsiderate -- more generous and sincere hugs and smiles to give with love -- priceless!

I was one of those "crazed" Xmas over-achievers =:~) -- Everybody got something. Nothing like a severe and un-recoverable financial series of losses to slap the "spending" out of you.

So, everyday wishes for a Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas -- I celebrate birthday-week and Christmas season =:~)

cyber hugs,

k/

too little time, too little $$$, not enough chickens
