Just wanted to give a belated welcome to

'overthehenhouse'

I see you are from San Diego! We moved here to WA from SD County in '92. Grew up in San Diego, Vista, Ramona then Escondido. Dad helped with a down payment on my cute little house in Ramona with 3 acres and peach and citrus trees, got married then moved to WA. Had family up here that has since moved away but I love it (DH has since decided he doesn't love it) and stayed and started my farm. Traded the heat for rain! Some days I would like warmer days and less rain but I do love the milder climate and water and trees. Don't miss the 100* days at all. Do miss the warm beach though. Overall, looking at the last 19 years, should have stayed and farmed on my three acres in Ramona (by myself) and continued my employment at the San Diego Wild Animal Park (now called Safari something or other)but such is life. Hope ending up in WA happens for you! Would love to meet a fellow San Diegan!

They are not perfect but a good place to start if you're getting into this project--or a nice little outside blood to mix in with an existing project.

Ok. I'm now down about 200 pages, so.... PM me if there's any major events happening. I'm not going to try to read through them all.
Hope all is well with my chicken friends. Hugs!

Surprisingly, we are still getting some eggs. It seems like last year they ended their laying late October. I guess things do get better with age.

I forgot to let you guys in on a funny.
If you remember, our smaller bantam araucana, BamBam had not been cooping up at night for a while. We figured she was going next door (flying or going under the 6' privacy fence). This went on for a month or so but she kept returning in the am. She's not exactly friendly to people so we resolved that she may not make it out on her own. We also deduced that she didn't like getting picked on by her molting, grumpy flockmates.
One day she didn't return. Probably lost her then. We were busy with baby and family visiting and discussed with them that she likely found her fate by a raccoon.
Then about 5 days later my Mom said there was a man walking down the street with a fishing net. She was a concerned Looky Lou and said that he was acting loitering across the street between 2 of our neighbors' houses. Then she screams, "There's your chicken!! He's trying to catch your chicken!" I give the baby to her and then run outside.
It took 4 people, the fishing net, and 5 more minutes to wrangle the fast, feral chicken but we did it. Thank goodness for friendly retired neighbors!
Anyway, it was a funny event. DH wished Mom took photos of us all running around the bushes chasing after BamBam. He also wanted to ask her why she did it- cross the road that is.

We locked her in the coop for several days and attached hardwire fencing to the bottom of our privacy fence. It's been a couple weeks and she has not left us yet. Maybe she decided that she did not like sleeping by herself in the snow. Silly girl.

Hi, Washingtonians! Does anyone have or know of anyone that has any full jersey giant chicks a week or less old in the puget sound area? My sister wants some so bad but can't find any to give to her broody hen. I want to give some to her for Christmas but I don't know how to find any. Do you know someone that I could even check with? Thanks and Merry Christmas

I'm off to do a bit of shopping with my DILTB, and then home by 2pm to do the usual stuff.

All of my wandering borrowed items are, I believe, in their real owner's hands, and my daughter has been moving to her own apartment since Saturay without the flood waters of her possessions receding any that I can tell.

And of courst the bale of hay I bought Halloween Week is down to it's last day, so my DH gets to bring hay home in the Camry, which should be interesting?

At Home depot, we bought a box of contractor's Trash Bags...BIG HUGE & SUPER TOUGH.and any hay, etc, I put in one of these huge bags before I toss it in the van, lest I be picking hay out of the carpet for eons.
