I'm off to do a bit of shopping with my DILTB, and then home by 2pm to do the usual stuff.

All of my wandering borrowed items are, I believe, in their real owner's hands, and my daughter has been moving to her own apartment since Saturay without the flood waters of her possessions receding any that I can tell.

And of courst the bale of hay I bought Halloween Week is down to its last day, so my DH gets to bring hay home in the Camry, which should be interesting?

At Home depot, we bought a box of contractor's Trash Bags...BIG HUGE & SUPER TOUGH.and any hay, etc, I put in one of these huge bags before I toss it in the van, lest I be picking hay out of the carpet for eons.

I thought about those, but they'd mean a trip to HD during a week when we have zero time, so I'll stick a tarp in the trunk tomorrow morning, and bungie cord it in the right position so nobody has to think about how to do it right.

I got delayed by lines and then by DILTB's parent's car getting a flat tire, and had to set traps in the dark tonight, ugh. I did get some nice stuff for people, I hope, and introduced DILTB to Orca Books, always a good thing (independant booksellers for the win, right?). My feet may eventually thaw after standing around waiting for my ride home to show up, though.

I was feeling guilty until the parents both independantly mentioned that they'd been having trouble with that tire.

Thanks! I loved a line you wrote in a recent post about 'farming while clumsy' - completely cracked me up! And if I can get a bale of hay in my Honda Civic, I'm sure your DH won't have any problems getting one in his Camry

Well, the boys at Del's will get it in; I'm rather concerned about getting it out, though.

find your come-along -- let the mechanism do the work

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...seems to me that Pettec63 has Jerseys........and I think she sold 1 Cock bird at the last show.........but she is in Outlook, a far drive for peeps....

ok I have a tough decision, want the wisdom of the rest of the chicken peeps that I know. my pullet has been on baytril and then denegard for 2 weeks now. the rumbling congestion has finally gone away but she still is sneezy , wet sneezes... she is fine, eats and drinks and mad cause she is in a crate but I wont let her out until she is completely clear. do I hold out hope that its going to clear? or do I cull her, she is a gorgeous girl and would be a great loss to me. but I dont want chronic disease and the rest of my flock infected. I also have a cockerel with runny eyes, he has been on denegard for 3 days. if his eyes do not clear up he goes the same time as she does. would you all wait another week? or am I flogging an already dead chicken...

Dinner tonight - one of the Cornish that we culled to make room for the Icees.

Step 1: Boning and seasoning the cavity

Step 2:
The legs are boned although they don't look like it. You have to break the bones at the ankles (ankles on a chicken?) and then remove the rest of the leg bones. He is now lined with spinach.

Step 3: Next you add the stuffing of your choice, not forgetting to stuff the legs so they are nice and plump. notice the little fortification in the top right of the picture

Step 4: Now it's time to tie him up and pop him in a 325 oven till he's nice and golden. Must remember to turn him once in a while to brown him all over.

I'll let you all know how he turns out!

You ought to look into these Bantam Barnsvelders I got from Birdsnbeasts..like Seremas, they are adorable, quiet & small, but so beautiful, even the hens in this breed are laced & lovely, not just the cockeral.
Karen reports that they lay quite a large egg, ranging from a commercial medium to large size.
Since they are a wittled down version of Large Fowl, their eggs remain quite large, unlike true bantams which have an egg to match.
I am loving these guys more everyday, small poop, hardly eat 1/6 of what the equivilant in Large Fowl would egg....and they are nice, but do not underestimate the cockerals, they are all man, and protect their ladies thusly!!

I told Karen, wow, I can have 2X as many chickens if they be bantams..and she said NO, you can have 4-5X as many in the same space & use the same feed.
So....something cool to look into.

When I had the "outbreak" of "Something" here, vet put my worst bird on Baytril. She got better faster than any of the others, and is now my most gorgeous girl again. We couldn't eat her eggs for a while, but since she started to molt, and hasn't started laying again, it's no biggie.

Hold on to yours for a bit. She may surprise you.
