are they fully feathered?? if so, put them out in the coop under the heat lamp, they will know when they are cold and go get warm when they need to. just check and make sure they didnt get lost trying to find it a couple times a day lol. my broody raised her babies in January and they all did fine, no heat lamp.

Chickie Lady I have worn LaCrosse Outdoorsman rubber boots for years and really like them. They are a tall (almost to knee) boot that is insulated and have a good sole that will keep ya on yer feet and off yer seat. The draw back is they area little pricey. About $70-$90 but they last. I have them last as much as 10 years.
I have a lot of cold feet problems and these boots keep my feet warm when others fail.

I think I remember you posting this last year.
I think this is a beautiful story and I wish more would realize that THIS is the meaning Christmas.
I have not been in the Christmas spirit at all this season. Somany commercials. It was making me angry all the commercialization.
We always try to do some form of giving....I want to remember this story and next year do just a bit more giving - to others - notjust toys and "wants" to my kids.
Okay, crying right now. You have helped lift my spirits.
God Bless

Everyone have a Merry Christmas

They have a full set of feathers, but when I am in their "scratching and loving" them up I can feel more pin feathers. They love having their chests scratched and behind their heads. they are a hoot.

Thank you. I was just wondering if going from such a warmer environment to cold outside would be hard on them. I will get an infrared bulb - that puts off nice heat - to keep them company. They definitely need more space. I think one of the cockerels broke his toe. It is disfigured, bent 90 degrees. It is not a birth defect as I just noticed it. Poor baby.

They also like being in the house because they are getting regular treats.

I was thinking they were older but they hatched 10/15/11 that makes them 9 weeks old. The boys are almost the same size as some of my layer hens. Wowsie.

thank you. Can you believe DH also was concerned....LOL....we are worrisome chicken parents.

I am using some hay bales to build them a "COOP". I will wrap in a tarp to keep it dry and then fence off a nice yard for them. i think they will be much happier. DH will help so that I can place the heat lamp in without burning the place down. It will be nice to have them out of the house. I will start on this Monday so they have a few more days of the life of chicken luxury. Just went in and fed them a handful of mealworms. Crazy birds.

If I hadn't gotten sick I would have moved Elvis in with his wives and moved the Tower of Solitude closer to the housewall and put the chickies in it for a while (also extending its footprint and changing the doors) but it's going to take more muscle than I have at my command to complete that task.

I am thinking, right at this moment, that I should have been less virtuous and energetic yesterday, because I feel like getting out of this chair is more than I can manage. However, it is also possible that running at about 25% caloric intake over two days might have something to do with that.

Stupid getting sick.

OvertheHenHouse. Some history.............

Back in December of 1998 my Dad died unexpectedly.

I was looking for something else during my grief and ran into that story which honors my Earthly Father as he was like the Father in the story as well it honors my Heavenly Father as Christmas greatest gift of all is LOVE!

Every year I read that story and I can not remember one where it doesn't speak to me in some way.

We all have an extreme ability through love to impact others.

I remember one Sunday at church before the offering was going to be taken the Pastor said yes the church needs money to keep the lights on etc, but if you really want to give then give of your time serving others. It is real easy to place money in the basket but if you really want to give then give your time.

Serving others, loving them one can not place a value on that.

I found the story on a story list page and never have found out who wrote it or if it's true.

What I do know is the principle of it is true as I have seen it happen through my Father as well as others.
