Sometimes we forget how transient life can be, we take so much for granted, and then we suddenly are hit with something incredibly horrendous. What's amazing is how resilient people are - we CAN overcome these things, especially with "a little help from our friends".

Hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas!

And back at ya Dawn! (did you go to Chehalis - did we meet?, there were so many new folks for me to meet, it's hard remembering)

Ain't it the truth. The day went better than I expected. I know I'm not the only one suffering, and certainly not suffering the most. Having friends who understand is very comforting.

welcome to the thread

it is very long - and I don't know if anyone has read this thread from start to finish?

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss, the holidays are a difficult time to lose someone because of the connection/reminder. That was a beautiful poem that Totalcolour posted,

I was recently incorporated into Kirkland as well. The limit for the incorporated area is 3 chickens and no roosters...we're well within that limit

The other stipulation is that your coop has to be at least 10 feet from any property lines. But as you said, if you're neighbors are ok - so are you. No chickens in the other parts of Kirkland - hopefully that will change soon.

Now I wonder where you are

Our neighbor keeps telling us our chickens have escaped; then we count and find out it's someone elses chickens that live down the road. She sees them and thinks they are ours that have gotten away.

I came home early to put the girls to bed - everyone else is at MILs. Everyone enjoyed our homemade gifts and when I left our niece & nephew were playing with the kool-aid playdough we made them.

Hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas!

Don't we get grandfathered in on old codes if your structures were preexisting? Mine is def built on site and has been there for nearly as long as the house. It's so cute!! I've added on, but made it to match. It will totally match when I get the painting finished in the spring. I doubt very much that my neighbors would rat me out. I have only 3. Yeah...only 3....I swear.

We are very close to Juanita High. My chicken have never gotten loose off the property, thankfully.

In this event, carry on & be happy with yourselves & your own "family"
Do not let the "other family" bring you down one bit!!!
XOXOXO

I can't imagine not inviting the entire family.

My sister has a glass kiln. She made us house numbers for Christmas. I love them, and can't wait to get them up.

my take on it -- tell her right away

when I was 11 -- my beloved purebred Siamese kitten was killed running into the street

my parents kept the news from me and let me go on a hayride that night, unknowingly

I didn't find out until the next morning when I went looking for the kitten

I felt betrayed -- I would have preferred to skip the hayride (I didn't have any fun on it anyway, most of the kids were coupled up and smooching) -- and stayed home to say goodbye to my kitten

the news won't ruin her Christmas, but the withholding of the news may leave a permanent scar, she'll feel you don't trust her

Y'all do not want me to go into the love of a 'lost' pet~~~~~~ it is or can be much, much more intense & profound than loosing a human relative.
The humans come & go, but the beloved pets are always at out feet...unjudging and unconditional.............my heart goes out to you!!!

Bu11$hit. I've lost pets. Loose a daughter - then tell me that is less profound than loosing a pet. Once the daughter is gone, there is no getting 'another one'. Pets can be 'replaced'.

The passing of anything we care for is painful.

oh yes, the traditional freezing rain at Christmas --- when we were traveling back from Sacramento to see my parents -- usually ran into the freezing rain just south of Tualatin .. northbound ... and had to go up that miserable hill on I-5 from Tualatin to Tigard, with everyone else on the freeway, skidding and sliding around so that we had to either dodge them or stop; then miserable to get going again

I have a lot of affection for the Chevette I was driving, it would go in snow when Subarus were overturned in the ditch

also remember Siskiyou Pass -- one time southbound, we basically followed a truck over it, total blizzardy whiteout -- when we pulled into the gas station at Redding, the attendant asked us where we'd come from, to be so snowy --- when we told him we'd come over the pass, he said: BUT THAT PASS HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR SIX HOURS !!!

DS couldn't go up to his dad's for Christmas this year, as he usually does, so he had a quiet Christmas playing cards online, DH was cleaning out his email box and I was reading a couple of GREAT books that I had gotten for my birthday ... then we watched the football game tonight and I found I had lost my fantasy football championship by all of 5 points .... my opponent had Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback (lotsa points) and I had Tim Tebow (who reverted to rookie/human status this week)

chickens decided they didn't want to free-range in the rain, so we'll let them out next decent day; I put the spare branches from the Christmas tree, plus the blown-down branches from the big fir in the yard, in the run for them, and they had great fun chomping on the evergreen needles
