This is the first real break from cooking since last Tuesday.
So last Monday I was informed that the dinner that had been planned at my DD's house in the Green Lake neighborhood, was now going to be held on Tuesday. No problem, I thought. I can cook a full turkey dinner for 12 in my sleep. I was certain that there were 2 turkeys in the bottom of my freezer. Well there was only one small turkey at the bottom of the freezer. So no problem. It was the day after Christmas, and the fresh turkeys were 50 percent off. So I bought 4 more turkeys. I had a small one that I baked just in case that deep frying the fresh bird didn't go well. I then transported about half of my kitchen to DD's house, without very much help from DH. DH woke up that morning with a migraine. So dinner was a success.
But earlier on Tuesday morning my DDiL calls up and asks when can we start cooking dinners for the freezer. DDiL is have surgery tomorrow and may be laid up for 6 weeks. So Bright and early Wednesday morning, I got to start making freezer dinners. So here I am now looking for another freezer, in order to put all the dinners in. I did can 14 quarts and 9 pints of chicken/turkey stew. I still need to make up the beef stew. So far I have managed to make meatloaf, lasagna, tuna casserole, chicken casserole, meat and tater pie casserole, and 4 quiches.
I have been able to buy a freezer tonight. I will be able to pick it up on Wednesday. I must say that I am tired of cooking now. At least there is no reason for anyone to think that they are hungry around here.
We just got back from Iowa last night, and I had a ton of stuff to do today (and tomorrow). I picked up the two chicks I left with my friend and man, do they look pathetic. I don't know if this is just that awkward stage that people talk about, or if these chickens (sex links) develop weird, or if there is something wrong with them. Their feathers are coming in really unevenly, with stripes on the neck that are still bare. I don't remember my other chickens looking this bad. I was contemplating trying to find a home for them, but I doubt anyone wants to take them looking like this. LOL
My 16 year old cat died while we were gone. That was a complicated issue, having the petsitter find him and deal with the situation. I knew he would not be around much longer, but I didn't expect it to happen while we were gone. Anyway, his final offering was to urinate all over the living room while I was away, so I am now trying to de-stench everything. *sigh*
I guess that's it for now. I have two cranky kids who probably don't want to go to bed. Did I mention I can't wait for school to start again?
Just survived a day at OMSI with 10 kids and 4 adults!
Some of the stronger ones went into the Body Works exhibit.
Real cadavers with parts exposed, in poses like live people!
As you can tell, I am NOT one of the stinger ones!!!!
I went and solved some mind puzzles instead!!!
Never had an interest in med school either!
