I have a hot frame, dual paned windows on the top, styrofoam insulated sides, sand in the bottom covering heat tape.
So it is very warm even when it is snowing outside.
Seeds get started in appropriate pots & packs, and set out in the hot frame...there they all get TONS of REAL sunshine instead of lights.
The hot frame is fantastic!
Making one for Dad right now.
After the plants get to the point where they grow up & touch the glass, I start hardening them off by cutting the power to the heat tape & propping the window lid open a inch or so.
After that the window is opened higher & higher..and finally plants are set out in the green house, and cool crops are in the ground.
I usually start about February, late to middle february...we'll see what the weather does.
