I got 288 eggs for December that is exactly 24 dozen. 24 X $2.00 a doz. = $48.00 I only spend about $30.00 a month on food and bedding. a 50# bag of pellets last me a month(sometimes 25-29 days) cost $18.50 . a bale of shavings lasts me three months ! I do give them black sunflower seeds and cracked corn everyday. But I do get a good discount on them through my DD

Greg

Dang, I need your chickens ... I have 38 and get 5-7 eggs per day now (I was getting 12 per day in October). Take out the roos, and I have 31 pullets and hens, take out the banty hens and I have 29. My oldest gals have mostly molted and so most are laying again, great, big, JUMBO eggs from them now! I have 4 EE, 2 Ameracaunas, 2 Cochins, and 1 BCM taht have yet to lay an egg. (I thought one had, but it turned out to be one of my old EE's who is currently molting but has started laying again). My 5 Barnies started laying in September and stopped to molt in October - they are taking thier time, Some look perfect again, but have not resumed laying. My Lavender orpd look like zombie chickens; no eggs from them.

Yes, but a National is special- one goes to exhibit as much as to win. Are you a member of the Araucana club??

I have been an Araucana Club member, however I think I am expired at the moment.

I can exhibit, probably 2 - 4 birds.

Mostly Whites, but possibly an odd color too.

I don't like those - My only experience with them I was pregnant with DD and they had to operate to keep her inside. No one told me they were going to flip the Operating Table, so I vomited and it went up my nose whichmade me choke, and they flipped me back upright to clear it, then they flipped and it happened again. Next time I needed the operation, I was not allowed to eat for 48 hours so there would not be a repeat. First time was emergency surgery.

Chickens are going to love today - another day locked in their coop and covered run while we experience more torrential rains and high winds. Today they get left-over broccoli, bread heels, oatmeal and rice. Yesterday some got tired of being locked inside, so I opened the run door figuring they could run outside during any breaks in the weather. They were stuck outside when a heavy squal with high winds came and plastered some of the hens against the garden fence like trash blowing in the wind.

Sorry about your kitty Ari
