I took methotrexate for several years. If they get the dosage right, it's not too bad. Must be careful how much you drink though (alcohol) because it can damage the liver.

Are you taking it in one dose, or in several? I took mine over a 3 day period. Was fine. Hope you are too.

I just got it, says take 3 tabs once weekly. 2.5 mg tabs. I doubt it bothers me, the other things I have been on are heavy hitters and do not do much to me like they do others, just wondered. I dont drink so am ok there. I read today they do have it in shot form, might ask for that if the tabs make me ill

CL you know whats strange? Asia has almost no cases of UC or crohns, its a foreign disease over there. they do not put all the additives in their food like we do...or have GMO or any of that other strange stuff. crohns has a higher incidence in certain Jewish nationalities and its somewhat common in Europe. the US has the highest affected... although it is a gene you were born with, I think its quiet until something ticks it off.

DH reply was "let's hear it for the "muffin monster". He has come home telling me many stories of what he has found in the "muffin moster".....Ick.

I learned in school that one of the things that has been proven against auto-immune diseases are nematodes.

They took some people with Rheumative Arthritis and gave that to them. In all of them the disease did not get any worse and some got better. How often does something work for everyone tested?

They also gave some to baby mice that are the models (stand-ins) for Type I diabetes. None of them became diabetic.

Why is this not a big deal? Drug companies would prefer to sell you insulin for the rest of your life than give you a cheap pill that will make sure you never develop it.

No, this is not new. I learned about all of this in 2002-3.

Last time I reviewd that issue, it was not actually nematods which live in soil ...but Hookworms.
The immunal system lies in the gut, and Hookworms in the gut have developed emitting chemicals that calm the immunal system, there by there is no reaction from the immunal system to the worms.
hookworms are not something I care to have in my body despite the amount of weight I have to loose.
But some folks are actually selling hookworm larvae or ova to others who have chronic allergic reactions.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwww
