A chicken diaper purchase for your soon to be little "house chicken"?

Sorry, that wasn't much help, but it seemed logical. We do have a few house poultry here on the thread!

This last EE cockerel of Kaneke's that I've promised to give back to her is acting like a dumb teenager and is about to go on restriction! Two mornings ago he started crowing at 5:30 AM. Since I am smack dab in the middle of Suburbia we are officially outlaws now. I put on my robe, ran outside to the coop and picked him up to spend a couple of hours in darkness in the bunny cage in the garage. When the sun came up, he was let out with the rest of the flock. Last evening I got home from rehearsal about 5 PM so it was already dark. I checked to make sure everyone was safe in the coop and the cockerel was missing! I checked around the yard with the flashlight and then finally got the bright idea to look UP, where I found him roosting on the very top peak of coop roof. Argh. DH wasn't home, so I got the ladder out of the garage and of course, every time I got near him, he would run to the other side of the roof which is 12 feet away. I made sure our Golden Retriever was outside to keep watch and protect the dumbhead and waited for DH to come home. This was obviously a 2 person job. When DH arrived home we played chicken ping pong across the roof, until little roo finally jumped off so we could corner him and catch him in the dark. I'm sure we looked ridiculous. So Mr. "Cock of the Flock" spent another quiet and dark night in the garage where he will continue to spend his nights. I don't need any chicken police at my house to discover I'm a mere 7 chickens over my legal limit according to Pierce County code. I could NOT make the decision which 7 would have to go if I were busted!

Oh man....I feel ya. If I were still on County ground the laws are very vague and the original plat map states that fowl may be kept and has no limit attached to it. We were dreadfully annexed last June. Argh! So the city says 3. I have 3 X 5. I had to have an inspector come out to check the installition of our new furnace and was totally freaked out. I piled all kinds of yard crap in front of the coop and he didn't notice. It looked like we were the Clampets but it saved my girls. I have a gaggle of eggs coming to hatch...it should get interesting. From our first batch we found that "Shelly" was actually "Sheldon" so we rehomed him. I was undone when standing in my kitchen and I hear "Eerrr Er Er Er Eerrrr!!" and turned around to see Shelly...I mean Sheldon...standing on the railing of our deck (2nd floor) just a crowing like crazy! Uuughhhh.

I've seen reference to it....I just can't figure out how a chicken can poo in a diaper and not get it stuck all over her butt?

I really am not sure. But let me share some info with you. I have had B and LF in the same coop with no problems. Now keep in mind that mine were raised together so they all thought they were just one happy family. One thing I do is anytime I add new birds to a coop I do it at at night in the dark. I have found they are accepted better this way than if I add during the day. Hope this helps a little and good luck.

Maybe some of the more knowledgeable will jump in here and help ya.

Not posting much lately since rehearsals for my show are getting intense. We're just about to get into "tech" week as our show officially opens at Tacoma Little Theatre on January 20th.

I hope most of you are through your bouts of winter colds and flu. And those of you with chronic illnesses - I commend you for having the strength and fortitude to just get up in the morning and then accomplishing what you do each day considering the challenges you are faced with. It makes me mindful to use the capabilities I have while I am in good health. So much is taken for granted.

A good day off here since DD returned to Pullman yesterday. I miss her already. When she's here, my days are filled with running errands with her, making sure she has all business taken care of before she takes off again. DH has nothing to do but watch football all day today so I'll take advantage of the sunshine and get the coop and yard cleaned up and maybe even cook up a hot meal for us for a change. While I'm doing shows, DH makes no complaint about living on sandwiches since the best I can do is usually cook a roast, casseroles, or giant pots of soup so he's on his own much of the time. Another thing to be grateful for - a DH that doesn't gripe about my lack of domesticity.

Ogress, I'm going to PM you - your mother's story is outrageous. It's hard to believe how a series of events can devastate our lives and jeopardize our health.

Better get a wiggle on while the sun is shining - there is much to do!

the over achieving immune system... seem to be a lot of us who have them these days. makes one wonder what the hec is going on. I got a new drug to go with my Humira today, called methotrexate, has many uses and seriously bad side effects lol. I am taking it anyway...on monday in case it makes me sick, then I can call doc and cry

I have wondered that very same thing myself.
Seems some of us have pre-determined genetically to have this happen.
One doc explained to me that your body is like a rain barrel...and during your life, stress, sadness, depression, viruses, GMOs?,food additives, food coloring, dry cleaning chemicals, lead, gasoline, chemicals, paint fumes,THC?, alcohol ?, ink from papaer at work, car exhaust, etc is all dumped in this rain barrel...and the immunal system works quickly to eliminate all this crap from the body.

Then it can overflow, and the immunal system goes ape.
It is then what is called "sensitized" and will no longer tolerate some thing at all...and begins to attack.

And it attacks where that predetermination is.
Alot of people can carry around the celiac gene their lifetime & never have it develope into disease, yet they have the gene.
A car accident, a misscarriage, a bad flu or chicken pox, and the next thing you know, you have an auto immune disorder.
All my brothers & sister more than likely have the gene, as do my kids, as did I when I was young, but no symproms until I was older & went through life's traumas.

That is true, my Daughter in law has a auto immune disorder and they arent sure what its doing to her. It came up after she had the spinal meni with my son last year...

I've struggled with adding her to the other groups. One group killed a little banty a couple months ago. So sad. I blame myslef. I did put her in at night but 2 days later she was dead. She didn't look like she was getting hassled too much. She just kinda stayed in the corner. In one coop I have a group of "old Bettys" A mish mash including Fluff Head a banty (a bit bigger than Muffintop, about twice the size. Muffin is teeny!) but they are a tight group. Sister Luck and MooGoo will go after anything. I let the groups roam the yard together but I have to keep watch over those 2 Old Bettys because they're a snooty bunch. In the coop attached to that I have a group that all grew up together. 3 Americaunas and 1 black sex link. There used to be another Americauna in there but she started plucking on the others so I moved her into a new coop with my Buff Orphington. That Buff don't take no guff. That coop is too small for another bird though.

Would a chicken kept alone die of being lonely? Do adult chicken tend to pick on chicks?

And CR...more experience? But you are The Rustler!!

I hope they can get the contractions to stop.. I will say there is a way to save the baby Zach was over 3 months early... Not fun at all to go through

Forgot to answer a few people!

Zgoat I think it was mentioned soap to sell at the co op. We have 2 people who offer soap. It doesn't sell well since most people right now are mostly interested in food. Can change later though. We can keep you in mind.

Chickie, the price on the mushrooms is $7 a lb. It's suppose to go down to about half that in the summer since the houses are warmer and they grow faster so there is an abundance. Right now he opts to not heat the houses as it's not cost effective.
