I

loved Popeye, he kept all the others in line, period.
Some cock birds do that...they are like our men, in that they run to disrupt fights, discourage arguements amonst the flocks...and so on.My Cuc
koo Marans boys are like that, I love them dearly!!!!!!!!

Shown are Milton (A) and Anthony (B) which are flock watchers and awesome at keeping te Peace even if I let 3 or 4 flocks out at a time !!

so it is possible to have 2 mature roos in 1 pen. Obviously there has to be enough hens to keep everyone happy...but do you have many problems. What if they were hatched together? would that help? Just curious.

I have all mine together even my bantam (unless I'm trying for hatching eggs)

Think of it like a pack of dogs.....

Alpha = #1 = top dog
beta = second in command = defender/patrols
delta = guards
omega = low man on totem pole = the one that gets picked on by EVERYONE... the hens the teens the roos everyone...

only 1 alpha and beta
can have many delta's
and only 1 omega that runs from everyone

Did my PET yesterday. They told me I would have no side effects from the sodium fluoride.
I got a very nice headache and beautiful nausea. Guess I'm just special. :/
Should have result next week.

On another note.... I received this US AG census thing that we are required by law to fill out.
Anybody, gotten one of these???
Hi Broody, sorry you are feeling crappy from the PET. That's no fun! :hugs Yes, we got the US Ag Census thing too and I've been meaning to ask folks here if they all got one or not. Guess we have to fill it out, huh?
The ag census people will nag you forever until you fill it out, from my experience.

Very interesting. I did not know this. Thank you for the wonderful information. I would feel bad for the Omega though. Poor boy.

it was really windy earlier and now the storm as hit... i realized i didn't hear windy howling... i look outside and it is snowing, fast and hard.... there is 1 inch outside now.... that was fast. looks like i will have to skip the drinking part of my friends birthday party tonight i don't want to drive in this. i did buy gun bulletts so tomorrow i will still go to the shooting target part of his birthday.

So sorry Broody - hope it gets better soon. Census? No? Do they do it with EVERYONE?
Good news: all three Hamburgs gave me eggs today; they've all been laying (they lay eggs with distinctive shapes and tones) but I've only had 1-2 eggs a day from them; today there were three, all of them still a little warm. I won't want to set eggs until calving season is well started and I have chickie-proofed the run- especially since the feral cat was down at the Hoop House last night and started Bjorn crowing at 1am. Bad news: I was at the point of being committed to feeding the Hamburgs and gathering their eggs, which involves certain vulnerable and pain-prone joints being up in the air and outside of the run when assorted frozen precipitation started to fall, so I am inside warming up and drying off before I finish chores. And then I've got to run errands and buy chicken feed and groceries and get back here early enough that DH and I can have dinner out and then buy more groceries, for that is the shape of all my weekends. Seeya whenever.
Aren't ya glad you do not have a job ???????? That is what my sister says when she unloads on me about her job...as if I am just sitting around.....and then I have to remind her I have to HAUL water in a bucket & heat it on a campstove to the right temp so I can take a shower......and ya know what she says? "You choose your way of life" :he Some people do not get Farming at all.........if we complain, they think we are stupid to be farmers.......so if we are all jobbers, who will feed us??????
My sister's prone to have people try to dump Cowbelles committees on her because she "doesn't have a job"; you'd think they'd know better! They got a round bale over here today before it snowed, luckily- getting trucks in and out of the field with snow on is tricky. I got all the hanging feeders filled and fixed the drainage in the hoop house (the hens had dug around until there was water draining in from outside, stupid birds).
