found an auction site where Greenfires farm sells their birds and there is a fierce auction going... its over $700 for 2 birds.....

the black version of this breed is going for $400 right now......

also i didn't realize how rare the birchen marans were.... Buddy the birchen in my avitar is rare according to the greenfire site.... i think he is distantly related to the greenfire bloodline... but he was an egg hatched purchased from my pet chicken and they buy eggs from many breeder/hatcherys

There have been Marans Birchens here for awhile, my girlfriend had them5 years ago. I love the color of the birds but wanted darker eggs.

hate to say it but sometimes you have to play football/soccer to get them to realize that you are the boss.... carrying them upside down by their legs and laying them on the ground in front of the girls also stabs at their egos..... some people think its all mean or cruel, but there isn't really reasoning with a chicken and those people have never been attacked by a rooster to know why.

So my husband has scars from our first rooster. My son was young and the rooster loved him. But he hated us. One day my husband come to the house with blood gushing from his mouth. I first thought the horse's did it he shook his head I said the goats he shook his head. When he had time he said he was filling the water bucket up for them and the Naked neck (ET) came at him. We didnt want to scare our son for life he loved him, well I looked outside and son my son running after ET throwing big rocks at him. I said what are you doing he said Im going to Kill him, he hurt daddy. So that day ET went home. And my husband still has scars on his lips and he sometimes dribbles from the scar. No rooster is worth it...

Sorry I did not intend to make it sound easy. While I have never had to go that far with any chickens I have been there with other critters. I know it is not easy and please forgive me if I made it sound like an easy choice or if I came across as harsh. That was not what I meant.

No, I don't think you made it sound "easy"...though sometimes it is easy when you have a nasty roo...it's just somewhat disheartening when you have big plans for one of the boys, and they turn into a big fat jerk and you know what you gotta do...

My sewing machine was running perfectly yesterday...and I got alot of totes made.
Today it is a bear !!
First the light died, then the thread tension top decided to screw up, then the bobbin tension screwed up...

I just want to throw it OUT IN THE SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have gotten 1 tote bag done in the same amount of time as I got 6 done yesterday !!!!!!!!

I swear little green men come in the night & twist knobs............
