Brrrrrr! It's cold inside! Crunchy, icy snow outside! I don't believe this will turn to rain at 2 am like it shows on the weather report.

Kids are happy about the extra long weekend, but I am ready to send them to boot camp.

Front porch and hoop house this morning; the snow had drifted off the roof and piled the porch full, but that's OK because the trouble was in the west yard. The hoop house has a wall of shed snow around it and no damage to anything, which is one readon it's going to be my basic plan from here on out.

Roof of the Hamburg run right before I started shoveling it off. It was a couple-of hours job and didn't even get to be first as the sheep pen had pretty much collapsed and while the boy was safe I was having the grues about it coming down while I was busy elsewhere so before I shovelled this off I cut the tarp off the sheep pen so I could get him out. This was actually in pretty good shape, all things considered; some sagging but all the supports intact and the plastic undamaged.

The sheep is currently in a temporary latch-up under a steel-frame arbor/garden seat covered with 6mil plastic and with one wall tarped. I've had to tether him in there, and neither of us are happy about that but there's no way to fix his house without a new 11 X 14 tarp and some muscle to move the thing around. He's got food, water, hay, and lots of alfalfa, but he doesn't have his house and he is miserable.

Also: my husband and I are in agreement that we've got to get an AWD vehicle with enough muscle to carry a little snowplow, because we are not the youths we once were.

This is what was on the ground at sunset last night before the foot or so that fell between 1am and 8am: classic Cascade Concrete, about six inches of wet snow over two inches of frozen slush. NOT fun stuff to walk in.

Bacchus tried to walk in the back door with me, and is now standing looking in the windows and bleating: best have a bit of lunch and go out and deal with the mess.

I looked at that last night, thought of snow on top of it, and got out the snow shovel. I did the steps, the walk, and the side walk. I've done the steps and walk again today, but I may not get to the sidewalk. I also raked the snow off the chickens' pens. I probably didn't need to, but I kept seeing people's pictures of squashed pens, and figured I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Oh, that was clear up by the Wyandotte coop; I shoveled steps and the main paths a couple of times yesterday, but today has been all disaster-mitigation all the time.

Not long after last post our power went out but we are blessed cause the cable and internet didn't come down. Glad I got gas few days ago. Enough to last another three days and by afternoon tomorrow I think we will be able to get to town. My neighbor came over with his chain saw and we got that tree cut up. Lot of clean up but blessed cause it could have been lot worse. Lot of trees breaking and leaning bad. Hopefully they hang on or it's going to be no power for days.

Love the snow on the lamp, so cool.

I am glad i stocked up on food. (and no one noticed that I have a snowday tomorrow....)

I won't be able to drive for a few days or more.... not because my car can't or my ability. Both are good for snow.... but the stupid campus snowplows buried my car!!! the snow is piled 3 feet against my tires, door..... when i parked it was 5 inches deep and i have a method of "making" a get out for my car... i rock my car front and reverse a few feet before i park. That way the snow is clear around my tires.........

The dorm does have a shovel i can borrow... but i fear that snow will be frozen. They said i could get the parking and transit guys to dig me out since its their fault.....

If I were you, I would get help from the transportation department before it does freeze solid and they all go home - and to make sure they didn't damage anything! So disrespectful =(
