I Know!! Well I haven't had a hip injury either, but I think and have all along that it is being generated from my back, I have had a back issue for 28 years, I have told the doctors what I think and of course the all mighty know it alls still can't figure it out!! I had one CAT scan done last week and they did the SI joint and forgot to do the hip!! If I were you I would try and get some answers!  You and I are still too young to go down without a fight!! good luck with the pups
I always used crates or exercise pens to contain them long enough to do my stuff around the house!   I hope you find relief soon!

I keep getting dismissed, because the only thing that they can figure out is that it's Fibromyalgia. But Fibro isn't considered a progressive disease. But I know that I am getting worse as time goes by. I do have a Doctor that is pretty good about treating me.

The pups are adorable, but it is very scary to get out of the bed. The nasty little beasties have turned in to snapping turtle head. The don't have any problem with chomping on my bare toes. :smack  :lau

It is a good idea to pen them in an exercise pen, but at this point they are small enough that they can still through the fencing pen. I could have used the brooder, but it is full
ofchicks right now.

you need a baby playpen for them; I found it a necessity when I had kittens to supervise; often they are available secondhand at thrift stores or craigslist

Thanks all for the welcome and advice.

I am using something called rooster booster which is a thick purple substance meant to help her heal and keep her from pecking herself. I am assuming this is probably the same thing as blu kote.

I do think she needs to spend more time with the others so I'll work on that.

Hi all - I am in Issaquah with some backyard chickens since July. I have gotten so much great info from these forums and have just discovered this thread of locals. It is very long and reading just the last few pages it seems like you guys know each other pretty well. I wish I would have seen this one about two weeks ago when I felt totally alone after an eagle attack. Though I have found great info here and a couple of people that have been really helpful.

My chickens have a great coop and an enclosed run that is fairly small in my opinion but bigger than many suggest. We have surrounded that all with an electric fence that we put on at night and whenever we are not around. Up until recently we have let our chickens out to raom while we are home but haven't really watched them closely at all.

Well apparently we are now under attack and everyone is on lockdown because of this young eagle. i have created a chicken hospital in my garage and my chicken (about 10 months old) has come back from deaths door (or so I thought) and she is doing great - has actually laid two eggs after 15 days "in hospital." She has a long way to go until her wounds are healed and she can return to her "flock" (five total lol) but she so wants to be with them but they peck her if we let her hang out with them at all. I am having a custom chicken coat made in hopes she can hang with them again soon hahahaha.

I have 2 acres but they only really roam on less than one of them - what are people doing around here about birds of prey?? is there a season? Previously we had let them roam about from about 12 until 3 or 4 every day unsupervised and they loved it. Will we ever be able to do that again?

I will subscribe to this forum by daily digest to look for answers but it does seem pretty busy so if you have any thoughts for me feel free to ask for my e-mail and we can chat that way if needed. Obviously I am new here so don't really know how this works.

Thanks so much!! Carla

We're probably neighbors, as I'm in East Renton Highlands close to Squak Mountain. I've seen eagles out here, but my girls forage in movable coops because we also have tons of coyotes, raccoons and other predators. I'm sorry about the attack but glad your girl seems to be doing all right. Have you tried putting Blu-Kote or a no pick lotion on her? It helps by removing the red color of the wound so other chickens are less likely to pick at it.

Or pants legs and shoes of visiting BYCers.

You should have seen this one pup, he latched onto my pants and would not be detached. I walked around Christina's house with a tiny Yorkie attached, riding on my foot!
And yes, Christina, would love it if you coordinated another potluck for Monroe.

For Illia, as promised!
Thanks for your patience!

Pretty birds! So who's who in those photos? What types of chickens are they? I'm trying to remember what you just told me you got from Illia. And how nice that you still have grass! I just told DH we're going to have to fence off some areas and get it replanted this spring so we have some green in our yard again!

Just an FYI...I have two large fowl Salmon Faverolles cockerels available (both pet quality) one will be HUGE, and the other looks like he'll be much smaller...will be great for a mixed flock...

I really should go and put the clean sheets on the bed. I have a feeling that at some point I am going to lay down for a bit. I should put the other sheets in the washing machine too.

Washing sheets is on my list today. I feel so depressed for no real reason, I may go to Swanson's nursery to take advantage of their sale.

We can never move from this house until we are too old to stay here. The house is paid for and all my family lives 10 minutes away. But man, if the rules ever changed as far as having roos in the city, I would have a Salmon Faverolles boy in a BIG hurry. They are SO pretty!
