Julie. Please go back and read my posts as I think some where there has been a disconnect in communication.

In no way did I express this thread to be about poultry only.
I never came here with those expectations nor do I want it that way.
I run quite a few message boards that we go OT and I find it helps us get to know each other which enhances what ever that subject is.

Others might feel different.

Neither did I request others not to talk about their personal life.
In fact many times I have tried on here in public and pm's to lend an ear or encouraging comments or info to their situation.
I hope that clears things up.

I was about to say pretty much the same thing. I don't want to be misunderstood and have anyone think I am saying this should be a chicken only thread. I'm just saying if it's not going to be, then everyone should feel comfortable and free to express themselves - and that includes how they may be feeling toward God at any one moment. I, for one, am thankful that CGG posted what she did as it gives me the opportunity to pray for her.

So ditto to what Greg said and I hope this clears that up too.

God Bless,

Hi all - I am in Issaquah with some backyard chickens since July. I have gotten so much great info from these forums and have just discovered this thread of locals. It is very long and reading just the last few pages it seems like you guys know each other pretty well. I wish I would have seen this one about two weeks ago when I felt totally alone after an eagle attack. Though I have found great info here and a couple of people that have been really helpful.

My chickens have a great coop and an enclosed run that is fairly small in my opinion but bigger than many suggest. We have surrounded that all with an electric fence that we put on at night and whenever we are not around. Up until recently we have let our chickens out to raom while we are home but haven't really watched them closely at all.

Well apparently we are now under attack and everyone is on lockdown because of this young eagle. i have created a chicken hospital in my garage and my chicken (about 10 months old) has come back from deaths door (or so I thought) and she is doing great - has actually laid two eggs after 15 days "in hospital." She has a long way to go until her wounds are healed and she can return to her "flock" (five total lol) but she so wants to be with them but they peck her if we let her hang out with them at all. I am having a custom chicken coat made in hopes she can hang with them again soon hahahaha.

I have 2 acres but they only really roam on less than one of them - what are people doing around here about birds of prey?? is there a season? Previously we had let them roam about from about 12 until 3 or 4 every day unsupervised and they loved it. Will we ever be able to do that again?

I will subscribe to this forum by daily digest to look for answers but it does seem pretty busy so if you have any thoughts for me feel free to ask for my e-mail and we can chat that way if needed. Obviously I am new here so don't really know how this works.

Thanks so much!! Carla

Welcome,
If you have a dog crate and a big coop you could put her in it and they couldnt get to her so she could visit..

Well, I have a dang Tempur pedic cost a LOT of money, and I think it was actually making matters worse!! I just getting more and more painful!! My mom left her regular pillow top mattress, and Terry decided to go back to that, and it has helped, still uncomfortable at times but better than the foam

I am more comfortable on a very firm mattress. I can't handle being trapped in one spot by a mattress. My poor DH would prefer a softer mattress, but I don't care. DH only lives here on the weekends most of the time. If he wants a softer mattress he should talk to Holiday Inn.

When I kept my chicks in the shower, I was shocked to see just haw many cobwebs were in that downstairs bathroom! All that dust they kick up sure sticks to those webs and makes them stand out.

I am going to try and do something fun with the kids this weekend. They are off next week for mid-winter break, and being the low-man on the totem pole, I don't have next week off (just my usual Tuesday). DH will stay home with them for 2 days, and I have them enrolled in daycamp the other 2. I was hoping to go on a nice hike, but it's raining buckets. Is it dry on the other side? Maybe we will head over the pass.

I have my chicks in my master bathroom because I couldn"t find a tote big enough to put them in. There are 19 in my huge soaker tub and let me tell you there is so much dust all over you cant believe. I use natures bedding and that turns to sawdust and they love takin dust baths in it. I am so ready to get they outside. lol. My kiddos have Monday off and if the weather is ok we are gonna work in the garden and plant their strawberries and sunflowers. Got a lot of running around to do my husband leaves in a few weeks for military stuff so he a bunch to get done on his hunny do list.) I cant wait for spring.

If folks on this thread are going to post about their aches and pains or what's for supper or how they had a bad day or a good day or whatever - THEN leave the gal alone and let her make her post! This particular thread more often than not looks like an episode of Peyton Place than having anything to do with chickens so if that's the case, then let the gal have her 5 minutes of air time!

And for what it's worth, there is ONLY One True God. Folks may think otherwise but that don't make it so.

God Bless,

I understand what both of you are saying TF and Greg, and I apologize cause I can't seem to get the other quote up, (not good at bells and whistles) Greg I have seen your posts and they have been good ones, which is one big reason I wanted to say that I'm glad we can talk. And TF if I misunderstood you than I'm glad you made me understand. I think there have been invaluable contributions from both of you, I too have made my statements about "the God of my understanding" that's how I phrase it, and if you read my signature it's pretty clear where I stand, I won't apologize for that, I love this Country and all she stands for!! We should all be in a place to agree to disagree! No worries!!

I count CGG as one of my good friends so what she says here, is ok by me!!

I brooded my Maui chicks on lots and lots of pulled-up weeds and weedy grass, they loved it, and there wasn't much dust

my Yelm chicks got an adult incontinence pad on the bottom, covered by fallen fir branches, and there again, not much dust (I had tried them out on commercial chips but they kept eating those, and those WERE dusty

now I get to sit on my hands and hope that the broody hen STAYS broody; we slipped six blue-green EE eggs under her on Tuesday and so far so good

my mama told me that it's prudent not to get onto the subjects of sex, politics, or religion, if we wanted to keep the conversation friendly; I am sure we all have our own beliefs, probably all think we are RIGHT, but as several have said, we need to honor and respect everyone else's beliefs even if we don't agree with them

do I dare say we need to allow the Higher Power to be larger than any one human or group of them? each of us sees an aspect ....

meanwhile, I think chickens are a brilliant design .... however designed ... and I'm really looking forward to helping raise the next batch here (since Mary wants them to be people-friendly, we will be separating them from broody mama as soon as possible)

oh, this weekend? well ... since the insurance company has messed up yet again and we STILL have no license plates for the cars .... I'm hoping a friend will drive me up to the Farmers Market in the morning, so I can buy nice fresh organic veggies and fruits (the ones we don't already have planted here), and then over to the thrift store to see if I can replace some of our stuff that the tenants broke, damaged, discarded, sold, or took off with ....

also going to go around the yard and pull up some of the weeds up here that the chickens seem to enjoy as treats -- they freerange all over the back yard (pretty well covered with trees or large bushes) but don't like to come in the front yard which is almost all grass with only bordering, somewhat scraggly, bushes and one lone plumeria tree which is deciduous so has lost most of its leaves for the winter

Quote: jeez!! I'm not sure what you could use either!! I started calling them pigs with wings!! That's why I got a dark cornish rooster and I will just cross him with some of my laying hens cause I just can't stand the way my cornish cross grew so big and heavy!! It made me sad!!
Oh and to answer the post above, it's dry so far!! LOL!!!

LOL!! this is firm but not as bad as the Tempur pedic, it was making me miserable!! When we first got it it was great!! But, some where down the line when this pain started getting worse, the mattress made it even worse yet!! Anyway, still no call from the VA so, I will be proactive and call them on Monday!!
