I started off with a LG forced air and egg turner, than got one more from a friend but its not forced air so I just put newly hatched chicks in it. Than my Great Hubby built me a Cabinet one that has 3 shelves with egg turners. I love it the only thing I have to do is add water. So I put my eggs in the big one and hatch in the smaller one.
You have to decide why you want to hatch and how often, if you only want to do it a few times dont spend a lot and you dont have to go big. If you have a great Hubby like I do he can always make you one, or if your handy ( I'm not) you can always make one.

Um well for what I have read and what you guys have said hatching your own eggs results in healthier chicks and chickens. Not to mention the thread about all the dead chicks kinda scared me.

As for how often and how many um I am not sure. Probably not to many. My husband and I are looking for more property probably about 10 acres. So I eventually want to have 25-30 laying hens at all times and maybe a 2 or 3 roos. I dont have the time to get into breeding yet because I have little kids 8, 5 and 2 1/2 who take a up a big chunk of my time. The chickens were for them in the first place so I figure hatching eggs would be something we could do together as a family and maybe learn a little in the process.

My husband is handy but more in the way of cars. He a Army Mechanic. I am pretty handy with a hammer and nails myself but the electrical part not so much. LOL my luck I would end up with a batch of fried eggs.

So I guess what I am trying to get at, at least for now... Something small and not uber expensive at least until I get the hang of it and have a little more time on my hands then invest in something more costly.

Ugh, here it is the beginning of NASCAR season & DH is glued to the TV...and in the one room cabin I have no where to hide from it............oh well.
I usually read a book & dial it out.

Delivered the giant incubator to RainWolf...ran all over Renton & went to IKEA (not a smart thing to do on Saturday afternoon !!!) and we just got home so I am making dinner & answering e-mails, PMs & egg orders.

No way to catch up now though...power seems to be flickering so hope it stays on !

Maybe broodytood would be so kind as to show pics of the one she made. While I have not had a chance to see it in person I can tell you that from the pics. I wish I could make one near that nice ! ! ! she did an AWESOME job!

I remember that one Broody made, it WAS awesome !

I am kind of looking for a wine refrig for egg orders...so it needs to work.
I may just buy one of those little apartment/Motel friges for egg orders.................

Well, here it is too much Muskrat Love I guess?
It has since passed but is still well stuck there. This fence is between my mothers place and ours and we don't want to cut the fence so will wait a little longer and then give it another try? Any other sugestions? Thank you CR I would never have found the new upload icon.

Oh my, that is so funny !
Is it still alive ?
What did you do ??????????

I have that exact same one and I love it. The thermostats are so much easier to adjust on the Hovabator styro than the Little Giant (miller)so you wouldn't really need the 1588 and the big window is really nice. The egg turner holds 42 eggs so for the price it's a great deal.

Thanks for the feedback cowgirlfgrace.

My DH dispatched it with a hatchet, but it is still stuck there. I'm hoping that a little "seepage" will naturally occur and we will be able to get it pushed through, with out doing an circular autopsy

Oh my, that is so funny !
