BTW renart how ya been? Funny thing today I was trying to think if there were any peeps that had faded and should be checked on. You were one of the few I remembered but as ya can see I soon forgot to check on ya.

Surgery went well and is now pretty much all healed. Back to work on the farm, lots to do, always something needing done. The DW is happy to give me a list weekly, realistically I need them, and her to keep after me to keep on the lists.

Sorry I was away so long without posting. I will do better to keep in touch. Surely you would have noticed the absence of my silly posts sooner or later and texted me (which you can do anytime you wish, btw).

Trying to break our puplet of "herding" the chickens. The buffs have pretty much layed the law down with the dog! "Piss with us and be pecked! " The ee's simply ignore her, but the 1 of the 3 marans allows herself to be seperated, stopped, and then the dog mouths her tail, he wings, the wee pin feathers along her lower right leg. The dog seems to be herding and playing with the chicken. We have developed a command of "no chicken" that we yell in a shrill manner to spook the dog as much as let her know it is not good behavior.

There are not many times that we are not within sight and/or sound of the dog when the chickens are out where the dog can interract with the girls.

You guys never saw my "nice" set of dishes I only use on the best of occasions.....and packed away and I have not seen them myself for over 2 years now~~~~~~

The yeller dog pup is Spiritwood Farm's Magdelana Arrabella (also known as 'Maggie' who is now a search and rescue dog.

I use the command "leave it"
The command means ignore what ever they are focused on....
It is easy to teach by using treats, toys, goodies that draws attention and they learn the command means ignore.
Then transfer command to ignoring the chickens as well.

All my dogs learn this command when they come live with me... and I have never had any problem with my larger dog harassing my mom's little dogs or my critters.

Aye, we have used that command since Jaska has come to be ours. I think it is just going to be a learning process for all involved, thanks Rainwolf.

Hi all ..! As usual we are busy busy busy around the farm here. Getting seedlings started in the greenhouses (the CSA waits for no one), we have 5 goats that are bred for April/May kids so working on getting all the pastures set and re-fenced, working on the house (repairs as always), and the yard, the 30x50 herb garden, etc. Phew. Of course all the girls are out and about helping (in their own way of helping, which is usually being underfoot).


Speaking of the girls, we have a dozen of the bestest girls around, "BUT", it isn't enough. We are looking for more layers. Possibly up to a dozen more. Now the question is, what breed/variety should we acquire. We cannot keep eggs, they are gone as soon as we box up a dozen, I had 4 1/2 doz this morning, and now I have none. People don't even wait for me to put the sign out anymore, not that I am complaining.


So my friends .. what say you ? Currently we have 5 - ee's, 4 buffs and 3 french marans. All 9 months now.

The BCM that my EE hatched from an egg from CGG lays the biggest eggs of all my hens, at least 5 per week! They don't fit well into egg cartons very well. My friendliest chickens are the RIR, Australorps, and NH Red that I bought as pullets from the local feed store; the RIR especially. She's a lap-chicken, always runs up to greet me.

So the one bullied duckie drake and another drake went to a new home this evening. Dad said it went well and the lady was happy. Now I just have 2 females and 3 males. the one drawback with cayuga ducks is that after they turned shiny i couldn't tell who was 'the favorite' apart from everyone else. they all look the same

i am going to take my craigslist ad down. i think for the time being 3 drakes is not as bad as 5 was....

did anyone see my post earlier about there being a nice cabinet incubator for sale on the Moses Lake craigslist farm page? its a GQF Sportsman for half the price.

I still have my fingers crossed to hear back by friday for a returning job interview. In the interview on Monday it sounded like they really wanted me and my resume and cover letter stuck out to them. -sigh- I know there are a few others interested in the job but from what i could tell in the interview they were actually fieldman wanting to switch careers, so potentially i am competing against 45-59 year old men. they did say could hire a part time person while waiting for me to finish college in May.... them saying that was a horrible lead on to my hopes. I do not have much experience in job interviews to really get an accurate read on how it went (2 job interviews and they were 15 minutes... not the hour this one was). It was with a person in the room and another person on skype at the same time. it was weird and confused me as to who to focus on but i figured out the guy in the laptop is a higher up. research later indicated he is the director of the north america branch.

is the company i am trying to get a job in. they only have 9 "offices" in north america, wenatchee doesn't have dedicated building, yet... they are new to this market. they are international and based in australia.
I am more nervous about this job than I am about an exam... because this is such a great opportunity for an interesting career in an industry that is just starting. its so new there are no real "experts"
just holding out on hope.

An hour long interview is a good sign. They wouldn't have talked to you so long if they weren't interested in you.
