CHICKEN 911

One of my Blue Ameracaunas sounds like sh'e breathing through a Kazzoo! I had to go somewhere with ALex this morning, so I asked Olivia to take care of the animals. She forgot to let the chickens out. They were locked in their coops with plenty of food, but no water until nearly 2pm. They all stuffed themselves and are walking around with huge crops. She was laying an egg in one of the nest boxes when I came in, so I first thought it was just a strange egg-song. She started laying only about a week ago, and she lays a really long, narrow pointy egg. Her first 2 eggs were bloody on the outside, but she seems to be past that now.

I picked her up and examined her, and other than a really full crop (I can feel all the food pellets), she does not seem to have any injuries, no nasal discharge or anything. I suspect she aspirated some of her food. Every once in a while she will hiccup, and shake her head or scratch at her neck. Other than that, she behaves like a chicken, though a bit slwer now as she is laboring to breathe. When I first opened the pop-doors, she ran into the covered run with all the rest of her flockmates, and then ran back in again with all of them when a bunch of snow dumped from one of the trees onto the roof. I brought 2 big bowls of water into the coop, and she rant to a bowl and drank. she still sounds bad though not as bad as she did before. Is tehre anything I can do to help her?

Give her water...that is a start.
Keep a eye on her..........but I would say she just needed water !!!!!!

She is sounding much better now, but not perfect. I just emptied all the waterers, sprayed a little oxine in each and re-filled them. when she is roosting, she does not make the noise, but she decided to brave the 5' wide strip of snow that separates the run from a group of trees with no snow underneath, and when she ran across the snow, she sounded like a sqeeky toy. Now she is foraging under the trees so I can't tell her from the other.

That is cool! I could use the same thing to build a green house!
Yes! I was thinking if you used clear plastic, it would be a great way to start seeds a little early. :) I can't plant until the weekend after Memorial Day here (and even then I have to protect my plants for another month or so) and everything has to be hybrid if I want any veggies because our growing season is so short. :(

So, any goose folks here, tell me what you think about Brown Chiness Geese, I need to know hoe noisy, how aggressive......any pointers ?

VERY noisy...a lot more so than Sebbies or Africans....the only ones I've ever been around were obnoxiously loud and meaner than the dickens! LOL BUT I'm sure there are exceptions to that--just never met them. ;)

What are you looking for in geese? Meat? Eggs and meat? Weed/grass eaters? Lawn ornaments? Tolouse are not nearly as loud, have better carcasses and are better tempered than either white or brown Chinese....
