Hey, I grew up in Washington state myself, so I use that as an excuse when I've never heard of somewhere in Michigan. But I frequently run into people here in Michigan who either also came from Washington or have spent a lot of time there, and it is rare that any of them have heard of Buckley, my home town. I start with "Do you know where Enumclaw is?" If not, I go to Puyallup, and usually get a hit on that. (To be fair, there's plenty of little Washington towns I am not familiar with myself).... With Michiganders, on the other hand, if I want to skip the back-and-forth, I say I'm from "near Seattle." Never thought of Buckey as particularly "near Seattle" when I was growning up, but it's short, sweet, and at least puts me on the applicable side of the mountains. My DH grew up in Marquette, on MI's Upper Peninsula. I came out to MI for college, and he's why I eneded up staying. He used to talk about retiring to the U.P. Now he says he doesn't think he could stand the long, brown springs. Yup, because it takes so very long for the huge dirty piles of snow to melt and for anything to turn green again, I'm like "Yeah, those springs would be horrible dear, of course the six months of massive snowfalls and bitter cold would be just great when we're 80 years old, but those springs would just not be worth it!"Ya know your the second Michigander that has done that!! It's funny that no one knows where it is?? No we are actually from MI! we transplanted to WA when I was 12. Most my kin are from the surrounding DE troit area!! LOL
We had a 15 acre farm in Oxford, right outside of Lapeer when I was 5, we had everything!! Pigs, cows chickens horses ponies! Oh cept goats!! And yea, I bet you could just stop by and say hey!! No they don't have any chickens, dad tried keeping Peafowl but I think they took off! He doesn't get around too good, and mom has enough work to do taking care of what he can't take care of!! LOL!! She doesn't need the extra work for sure!! They only moved back there cause my Gram needed help, that was over 2yrs ago, then she passed last Feb, but, by then they had already bought the house, so they can't really do much about it, for a while, they are having problems with the cold, I think they will eventually try to go south.
Oh yea, and I was a Upper for a little bit! Lived in Gwinn for a year!! LOL
So, if we are going to trip into the past, let me say the things I remember, and miss are,
Better made potato chips, Fago rocknrye, and Kawalski sausage!! LOL!
You can tell part of my nationality eh?? Oh and every now and then, you will see me post,
"you betcha!!"
LOL how's that for being a Michigander!!
Oh yea, just one last thing, when I first got back into chickens, I started researching Buckeyes,
I told my friend, I wasn't sure if I should get them cause my dad would be offended!! LOL
He's a Blues fan!!! LOLI did anyway!! I just love their personality!! I have four chicks that just hatched!! Oh well!!![]()
Anyway, thanks for asking, and if your ever on your way up to Imlay city, let me know and I'll give you my folks number you can call and stop by!! I'm sure they could use the company!

I just remembered that I do want a Capybara. For a rodent, I have heard that they make fairly good pets. The only problem is that the nasty little dogs are much smaller that a Capybara. Now I am wondering how a nasty little terrier would handle living with a really large rodent?
It took me about an hour to find him, even though she kept staring at the same spot from all over the field; she didn't get that close until I'd found him and taken his ID picture. He's the only bull calf we've kept entire (there are three others, all steered when they were vaccinated and tagged) and he's a bruiser already although really tame and easy to handle.
BTW - I saw someone had shrimp on the menu.Is that for Monroe? If so could you put a big label on that?
I love shrimp but it will literally kill me, allergic.
If it is not for Monroe just ignore the crazy allergic lady and enjoy!!!
I will try to put allergy type ingredients on my food too as I am using almost all 100% wheat flour as I'm allergic to barley as well. Sorry gluten free peeps! Will repost this with the food listing stuff.![]()
It's come to my attention that there is no way, that I can possibly mop the floors faster than one Jet, and 6 nasty little dogs can mess it up.There may have been a reason that Jet was living in Nevada. Someplace warm and dry sounds very good right now. One the other hand then I would be battling un-limited sand.![]()
